Playing the card game helps children develop cognitive skills such as number and color recognition and matching, working memory, attention and planning. It also teaches social skills such as turn-taking, following rules, communicatioj and emotional regulation! 🧠

The importance of the different levels of play, also known as Parten's Stages of Play, lies in their progressive role in developing a child's social, cognitive, physical, and emotional skills. Each stage builds a foundation for the next, moving a child from independent exploration to collaborative group interaction.

It's important to remember that these stages are a developmental guideline, not a rigid sequence. Children may engage in any of these play types at various ages, even returning to earlier stages like solitary play for focused individual exploration.

Occupational Therapists (OTs) often use play based interventions to support children's learning, development and growth. After all, play is the primary occupation of childhood! It's also one of the reasons Occupational Therapy can be so much fun! 😊🧡💙

The sensory pyramid of learning is a great visual. It shows the importance of the sensory systems. They are the foundation for learning for kids. When children engage in sensory activities, it optimizes growth and development. A child’s body need a strong foundation of nourishment for the central nervous system [brain and spinal cord.] This foundation helps a child attend, behave, function, and learn.
