The benchmarking visit of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) to the National Children’s Hospital Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) Center was successfully conducted, providing a valuable platform for shared learning and exchange of best practices in pediatric palliative care development.
The activity opened with a warm welcome from Dr. Philip Morales, NCH Medical Director, who welcomed our PCMC colleagues and emphasized the importance of collaboration in strengthening care for children with serious illness.
As part of the program, Dr. Adelina Uyvico, Coordinator of PPC Clinical Services, provided an overview of the PPC model of care, highlighting the continuum of services delivered from hospital-based care to home and community support.
A key highlight of the visit was the interprofessional panel discussion featuring the NCH PPC team:
• Dr. Leicel Goyena, PPC Specialist
• Ms. Coy Vargas, PPC Nurse
• Ms. Sheena Robenta, PPC Social Worker
The session allowed the PCMC team to gain insights into the NCH PPC experience, including practical lessons in building an interprofessional, family-centered, and compassionate service for children with serious illness.
The activity concluded with the handover of the Global Handbook on Children’s Palliative Care to the PCMC team, symbolizing a shared commitment to advancing pediatric palliative care.
Thank you to our PCMC colleagues for the meaningful exchange and shared commitment to advancing Pediatric Palliative Care in the Philippines.
