PVMA Spearheads Seminar on Antimicrobial Resistance and One Health at UPLB
The Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA), through its specialized Council on Veterinary Therapeutics and Biologics, successfully hosted a critical "AMR and One Health" Seminar at the University of the Philippines Los BaΓ±os College of Veterinary Medicine (UPLB CVM) on November 28, 2025..
The seminar was spearheaded by PVMA President Dr. Jerry Alcantara, Vice President and President-Elect Dr. Lina Policarpio, and the dedicated PVMA Council on Veterinary Therapeutics and Biologics, led by Chairman Dr. Warly Mingrajal. Council members Dr. Rowena Marquez, Dr. Connie Punio, and Dr. Bing Luna were also in full attendance, underscoring the association's unified commitment to promoting responsible therapeutic practices.
The seminar was participated by senior Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students who are preparing to enter the professional workforce. The event was also graced by UPLB CVM Dean Amelita Estacio and Dr. Rio John Ducusin.
The program featured a lineup of distinguished speakers, who provided comprehensive perspectives on the multi-faceted nature of AMR and One Health and provided a blueprint for how different sectors can work together effectively to combat AMR. The resource speakers included Dr. Noel Lee Miranda, Dr. Michelle Paraso, and Dr. Corazon Occidental, who are all well known as One health advocates and antimicrobial stewards in animal health.
The seminar reinforced the necessity of collaborative antimicrobial stewardship and solidified the PVMAβs position as a leading force in promoting responsible veterinary medicine and ensuring national health security through the One Health principle.
