Wholly Grain understands that a nation’s success lies in a strong, sustainable and diversified agriculture sector. This goes as agriculture is labor-intensive, and oftentimes employs the least-skilled of workers.
We believe that by introducing sorghum as a more economical, nutritious and sustainable alternative in the Philippine Grain Industry, we can improve the welfare of our stakeholders, which includes our adopted farming communities, the natural environment and our end consumers.
We wish to raise awareness on sorghum as a sustainable grain. The crop is economically sustainable as it is less labor intensive in cultivation; environmentally sustainable for it has a low water footprint— using only 1.7% water per unit area compared with rice, and other parts of crop can be used for different end products such as fodder, biomass & syrup; our practices are socially aware as we source sorghum from a combination of small-scale farmers and agricultural cooperatives, reinvesting technology back to the community.
Sorghum has a neutral, slightly nutty flavour, with a texture similar to brown rice. Because of such, the nutritious grain is highly versatile in cooking, serving as a healthier, gluten-free rice, grain and snack substitute.
