Most people recover from a cold or flu and go right back to using the same toothbrush — but that simple habit can bring the same germs right back into your mouth.
Toothbrush bristles can trap bacteria and viruses, including Streptococcus, Influenza, and even Staphylococcus aureus. Research shows these microbes can survive for days, especially in a moist bathroom environment.

Every time you brush after being sick, you risk reintroducing those pathogens to your mouth — or even spreading them to family members if toothbrushes are stored close together. The result? A higher chance of reinfection, sore throats that come back, and delayed healing.

Experts recommend tossing your toothbrush after any illness involving fever, sore throat, cold, flu, strep, or COVID-19. Replace it with a fresh one once you’re fully recovered. It’s a small but powerful hygiene upgrade that keeps your immune system focused on recovery — not fighting the same infection twice.

🪥 Pro Tip: Always store your toothbrush upright, uncovered, and away from others. A clean brush equals a cleaner mouth — and a stronger body defense.

A concerned netizen sent to us a post from a patient expressing frustration about a dental visit. While we respect everyone’s right to express themselves, we feel the need to clarify misinformation and protect both patients and the dental profession for everyone's awareness. 😇

1. Hindi agad bunot ang solusyon. 💯

Dentists always assess if a tooth can still be saved. 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲—𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗲. That’s why if a tooth can still be treated and preserved through procedures like root canal treatment (RCT), that option is suggested and prioritized. Pero at the end of the day, decision pa rin ito ni patient.

2. Bakit may antibiotics at pain relievers muna? 🤔

𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀. Antibiotics and pain management are given first to control the infection before any surgical procedure. This is for the safety of the patient, not extra gastos lang.

3. Root Canal Treatment vs. Bunot – Magkaibang approach. 🆚

• Root canal treatment (RCT): Preserves the natural tooth, allows you to still chew properly, and prevents further complications. Yes, it costs more because it requires specialized skills, tools, and multiple appointments.
• Extraction: Cheaper and faster, but may lead to shifting teeth, bone loss, bite problems, and the need for dentures/implants later—which are far more costly in the long run.

4. Consultation fees 🩺👩‍⚕️

Professional fees are not simply "nagsalita ka lang naman Doc". Every consultation involves proper assessment, diagnosis, and medical responsibility. Dentists spent millions to give you the best health opinion and advice, plus they allot you chair time and consumables during the visit. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀.

5. Respect and Trust. 🤝

Threatening or disrespecting medical professionals is dangerous and unfair. Dentists are here to help, but they cannot compromise your safety just to give in to demands that may harm you in the long run.

✅ Public Reminder: If you are unsure or feel conflicted about your treatment plan, you have the right to ask questions or even seek a second opinion—but always with respect and understanding of the science and ethics behind dentistry.

🦷 Protect your smile. Trust the process. Respect your dentist.

🦷 Hey guys, quick reminder.
Kung naka-braces ka, don’t skip your monthly adjustment ha! 📢

𝘽𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣. Hindi 'yan design lang sa ngipin guys. Treatment 'yan. 💯
They need monthly monitoring para gumalaw yung teeth safely and correctly.

❗ What happens if you skip adjustments?
Here’s the real talk:

🔴 Delayed results –
Baka instead of 2 years lang ang treatment mo, umabot ng 3 years or more!
Sayang ang time, effort, at bayad.

🔴 Wrong tooth movement –
Without proper adjustments, your teeth might move in the wrong direction.
That means more work — and possibly restarting some steps.

🔴 Loose wires or broken brackets –
Kapag napabayaan, pwedeng makasugat sa cheeks or gums.
Uncomfortable na, unsafe pa.

🔴 Bone and gum issues –
Your jawbone and gums are adjusting too.
Kapag hindi mo pinapa-check monthly, pwedeng magka-complications like bone loss or gum inflammation.

🔴 Higher risk of cavities or bad breath –
Kasi walang regular check-up and cleaning, bacteria can build up around your brackets. Worst case, magkaroon ka pa ng tooth decay!

✨ In short: Every adjustment counts.
Skipping one or two might seem like no big deal now —
pero in the long run, ikaw rin ang magsu-suffer. 😬

So kung may braces ka, magpa-adjust ka regularly. Hindi 'yung puro ka selfie dyan, masakit na pala ang ngipin mo or may decay na pala! 🤭

A new study suggests that the oral microbiome plays a key role in your overall health and lifespan. A balanced oral microbiome helps prevent harmful bacteria from growing and entering your bloodstream—this lowers inflammation in the body. Less inflammation means a lower risk of conditions like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and some cancers. In simple terms: clean, well-balanced mouths are tied to healthier, longer lives .

The study also highlights that older adults who keep healthy oral bacteria—through brushing, flossing, and regular dental care—tend to stay healthier and live longer. Scientists noticed that people who maintain more of their natural teeth into old age often have better nutrition, mental well-being, and lower rates of chronic disease. This suggests that good mouth care may support both physical and social aspects of longevity.

A new review published in the Medical Research Archives (June 2025) highlights a growing concern in dentistry and medicine: the link between oral biofilms and major systemic diseases like diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and pancreatic cancer. Oral biofilms are structured colonies of bacteria that stick to teeth and gums—commonly seen as plaque. While we’ve long known they cause gum disease, this study shows they may also contribute to much more serious health problems.

Researchers explain that when these biofilms cause chronic inflammation in the mouth (like in periodontitis), bacteria and inflammatory molecules can enter the bloodstream. This can disrupt other organs and systems. In patients with diabetes or kidney disease, this added inflammation may worsen their condition. Even more striking, some evidence suggests biofilm-related inflammation may influence cancer development in the pancreas.

This research reinforces the idea that oral health is directly connected to overall health. Maintaining good oral hygiene—brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits—is not just about protecting your teeth, but possibly about preventing or managing life-threatening diseases too. As dentists, this underlines our role in early detection and prevention beyond the mouth.

This is Why Oral Hygiene Is Critical During Orthodontic Treatment :

Fixed orthodontic appliances create additional plaque-retentive areas, making it easier for food debris and bacteria to accumulate around brackets and wires. Without proper brushing and interdental cleaning, this can lead to enamel demineralization, white spot lesions, and eventually dental caries. Maintaining excellent oral hygiene during braces is essential to ensure both orthodontic success and long-term dental health.

‘PAPUNTA NA PO SA PAPUTI’

This was how Palace Press Officer Claire Castro described the country’s “color” under the current administration as a rebuttal to Vice President Sara Duterte and Sen. Imee Marcos’ claims that the current color of the country is black due to problems that the nation is facing as the reason, including crimes and injustice.

Cavities Can Cause Heart Disease — And Death:

But despite how crucial dental health is, teeth are often treated as “luxury bones.”

The bacteria that cause gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis can travel through the bloodstream, leading to inflammation and damage in your blood vessels.

For diabetics, the connection is even more serious — high blood sugar can damage your teeth, and in turn, dental issues can make blood sugar harder to control.

It’s a vicious cycle that many people don’t realize.

Worse, dental care, including cleanings and maintenance, is rarely fully covered by insurance. This is a particularly prominent problem in the US, leaving many to deal with the consequences of untreated problems.

And if a tooth infection spreads, it can quickly become a life-threatening issue by traveling to the brain or bloodstream.
