A Newborn Screening (NBS) Forum was conducted by the Albay Provincial Health Office for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from the different LGUs across the province this October 7, 2025, at the Governor’s Guest House, Legazpi City.

The activity was aimed at enhancing the BHWs’ knowledge and appreciation of NBS to pillar their roles and functions relative to the implementation of the program

To add substance to the forum, the APHO linked with the Philippine NGO Council on Population, Health, and Welfare (PNGOC) and Simon of Cyrene for a resource person who provided a comprehensive discussion on Early Detection and Referral of Clubfoot. The lecture was specifically essential in the promotion of free and accessible management of clubfoot in the community.

The said activity is a reflection of the APHO’s commitment in strengthening health programs by capacitating community front-liners with relevant and updated information.

National Newborn Screening Week
October 1–7, 2025
In celebration of Presidential Proclamation No. 540

This week, we join the nation in recognizing National Newborn Screening Week — a time to highlight the life-saving importance of early detection for newborns.

Newborn screening is a simple test done shortly after birth to check for serious but treatable conditions. Early diagnosis means early treatment — and that can make all the difference in preventing lifelong complications or disability.

Did you know? Many inherited conditions show no immediate signs at birth. That’s why newborn screening is essential — even when your baby looks perfectly healthy.
Under Republic Act No. 9288, also known as the Newborn Screening Act of 2004, every baby in the Philippines has the right to access newborn screening. This law ensures early identification of conditions that could lead to serious complications or even death if left untreated — protecting and promoting the health of our nation’s children. 🩺

At Ospital ng Parañaque - District II, we’re committed to giving every baby the healthiest start in life.

Let’s continue to raise awareness and support this vital health initiative. Because every baby deserves a healthy beginning.
