A short educational talk about Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) was conducted earlier today at the University of Rizal System (URS) Tanay campus flag ceremony, aiming to inform all employees and students about prevention, symptoms, and proper care to keep the campus community healthy.
SHORT TALK: HAND, FOOT, AND MOUTH DISEASE (HFMD)
Good day, URS Tanay Employees and Students!
HFMD is a common viral illness that mostly affects young children, but adults can get it too. It spreads easily through direct contact with saliva, blister fluid, or f***s of an infected person, as well as through respiratory droplets when coughing or sneezing.
KEY THINGS TO KNOW:
- Symptoms: Fever, sore throat, loss of appetite, and painful blisters or rashes on the hands, feet, and inside the mouth.
- Prevention is Better Than Cure:
1. Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds – especially before eating, after using the toilet, and after caring for someone who is sick.
2. Avoid close contact with people who have HFMD.
3. Disinfect frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs, desks, and toys.
4. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
5. Do not share food, drinks, utensils, or personal items.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET SICK:
- Stay home from work or school until all blisters have healed and you’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
- See a doctor promptly for proper diagnosis and care.
- Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
Remember - keeping our campus healthy is everyone’s responsibility! Let’s work together to protect ourselves and each other.
