The San Fernando Rural Health Unit recently organized a symposium on teenage pregnancy awareness at Romblon State University San Fernando Campus. The event aimed to educate students about the risks and effects of early pregnancy, with a focus on prevention and knowledge about mental health.

Dr. Sean Martin led the discussion on mental health, emphasizing that 1 in 7 adolescents aged 10-19 experience mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. Dr. Sean encouraged students to seek help if they're experiencing symptoms of depression and to constantly move in order to combat the factors of this mental health condition.

On the other hand, Nurse Irene Concil highlighted the effects of teenage pregnancy and ways to avoid it, sharing a story of a student who experienced teenage pregnancy. Nurse Irene emphasized that "Prevention is Key" in addressing teenage pregnancy, reminding students to focus on their studies.

The event also featured a poster-making contest, with Francine Molina from the Teacher Education Department (BSED) taking home the top prize.

What a beautiful sight to see our RSUโ€“San Fernando Campus family united in shades of BLUE as we joined the initiative in celebration of World Mental Health Day 2025! ๐ŸŒโœจ

In partnership with the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA), our students, faculty, and staff proudly wore blue to show support and raise awareness for mental health and community well-being. ๐Ÿ’ซ

Another Successful Blood Donation Drive

The Health Services Office, under the leadership of Ms. Abegail F. Madali, HSO Director, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross and other health partners, successfully conducted a Blood Donation Drive today. A total of 71 blood bags were collected from donors who willingly and actively participated in this life-saving initiative.

Significantly, this activity coincided with the birthday of the University President, Merian P. Catajay-Mani, who also took part as one of the regular blood donors. Since assuming the presidency of Romblon State University, President Catajay-Mani has consistently demonstrated her commitment to this noble advocacy, further setting an example of servant leadership and compassion within the University community.

The blood units collected will be utilized to support patients in need, reaffirming the Universityโ€™s role in promoting public health and strengthening its partnerships with health institutions.

The University extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Philippine Red Cross, our partner health institutions, and all volunteer donors whose generosity and support made this activity possible. Together, we continue to uphold the spirit of service and solidarity in saving lives.
