Last January 31–February 3, 2026, Teacher Jaja volunteered at Operation Smile’s Surgical Mission in IUDMC Cauayan. She was grateful to serve alongside nurses, surgeons, fellow speech-language pathologists, and volunteer medical records staff from all over the Philippines.

It was truly a game changer to step into a different setting beyond the usual clinic walls. Teacher Jaja is now back in the clinic with fresh lenses and valuable learnings from the multidisciplinary team—more inspired than ever to carry these experiences into every session and serve her kids better.

It’s so important for kids—including our neurodivergent learners—to connect with their own culture. It enriches their vocabulary and, more importantly, supports meaningful socialization.

During the holidays, I asked parents to focus on just one thing: have fun and make the most of the experiences.

Here’s one testament to how powerful that simple shift can be.

Why it works:

When kids (and adults) are having real experiences, big emotions naturally come out. We talk more about things we love, things we dislike, and things that surprise us — and that creates opportunities for communication.

It also takes away the pressure to perform. Kids aren’t expected to sit and complete tasks, and parents don’t have to plan or prepare activities ahead of time. Everyone gets to just be.

Most importantly, it allows interaction to happen naturally — the kind that’s meaningful, spontaneous, and truly connecting.

At BTTC, this is what we strive for:
to help families and patients build real, meaningful interactions that go far beyond the therapy room.
