As we celebrate National Nutrition Month, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Health and Security Services invites all USPF employees to a Wellness Talk on Tuberculosis (TB) with Dr. Gerard Danielle K. Sio on July 12, 2023, at 10 AM, via Zoom.

A certified Six Sigma Yellow Belt holder, Dr. Sio is a DOLE-accredited occupational safety and health (OSH) consultant and provides his expertise on Occupational Environmental Health and Safety Systems Operations Policies Programs and Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics to a number of organizations.

According to statistics provided by the World Health Organization, about one quarter of the world's population is infected with the TB bacteria. Thankfully, only a small proportion of those infected will become sick with TB. And while TB is present in all countries and age groups, it is curable and preventable.

Let’s learn more about Tuberculosis (TB) together and keep our USPian community a healthier and safer place for all.

In light of the alarming number of probable or suspected cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) among school learners, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation reminds the USPian community to protect each other by continuing to adhere to proper hygiene and health and safety protocols.

The USPF Medical Dental Clinic issues the following reminders:

① Observe proper hygiene practices such as:
ꔷ washing hands properly and regularly,
ꔷ cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and shared objects such as toys and doorknobs, and
ꔷ avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth,
② Avoid physical contact with other persons, especially sick persons, and
③ Wear masks when in public since the virus can be transmitted through air droplets.

Symptoms of HFMD include mild fever, mouth sores, and lesions on hands and feet, and possible loss of appetite. The rash may appear red, white, gray, or only show as tiny bumps on the palms, soles, and sometimes the buttocks. The rash is not itchy. Infants and toddlers may show fussiness.

Children showing these symptoms are discouraged to attend classes to minimize the risk of spreading the disease.

Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
