The collaboration between Medical-Dental Services, the Gender and Development (GAD) coordinator, and the City Health Office San Carlos, spearheaded by HIV Medical Coordinator Dra. Natasha Benitez, especially for the HIV awareness and testing event scheduled at Pangasinan State University (PSU) San Carlos on September 16, 2025.

This partnership brings together key stakeholders to promote health awareness, particularly focusing on HIV, within the university community. PSU San Carlos Campus with its various academic programs and student organizations, provides a significant platform for outreach and engagement.

Influenza (Flu)

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses

Symptoms:
Common symptoms include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches, and fatigue. Sometimes, people may experience vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

Transmission:
The flu spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. It can also spread by touching surfaces contaminated with the virus and then touching the face.

Prevention:
Key preventive measures include getting an annual flu vaccine, practicing good hand hygiene, and avoiding close contact with sick individuals.

Treatment:
Rest, hydration, and over-the-counter medications like paracetamol can also help alleviate symptoms.

The PSU San Carlos Campus would like to extend its gratitude to the LGU of San Carlos and the City Health Office for their support and partnership in the FREE FLU VACCINATION PROGRAM held last January 23, 2024, at the Student Center. The program was a huge success, and we are thankful for the opportunity to provide our employees with free flu vaccinations, regardless of their status of appointment. The vaccination program aimed to protect our employees from the flu virus and promote a healthy and safe working environment. We appreciate the efforts of the LGU San Carlos and the City Health Office in making this program possible, and especially our traiblaizing Campus Executive Director Dr. Liza Quimson who inspires us always. We look forward to future collaborations that prioritize the health and well-being of our employees.

The flu vaccination offers numerous benefits, including protection against flu viruses, reduction of risk of serious flu complications, and prevention of flu-related absenteeism and presenteeism. It also supports overall health and well-being.
