Placenta previa is a pregnancy condition where the placenta lies low in the uterus and covers part or all of the cervix — the opening to the birth canal.
Normally, the placenta sits higher up in the uterus, but in placenta previa, it blocks the baby’s way out. This can lead to b£eeding during pregnancy, especially in the second or third trimester.
🩸 Main Symptom: The most common sign is painless vag1nal b£eeding — often bright red — usually in the later months of pregnancy. There’s no pain, but the b£eeding can be sudden and sometimes heavy.
💬 Why It Happens: Doctors don’t always know the exact cause, but it’s more likely if you:
• Have had a previous C-section or uterine surgery
• Are carrying twins or multiples
• Had placenta previa before
• Sm0ke or are over 35 years old
🚫 What You Should Avoid: If you’re diagnosed with placenta previa, your doctor will likely ask you to:
• Avoid s€x and vag1nal exams
• Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity
• Get plenty of rest
👩⚕️ Treatment and Delivery: There’s no way to “move” the placenta, but in some cases, it shifts upward as the uterus grows. If it doesn’t, your doctor will plan a C-section delivery to keep you and your baby safe.
If you have b£eeding, you may need to stay in the hospital for monitoring and treatment.
💛 Bottom Line: Placenta previa sounds scary, but with good medical care and rest, most moms and babies do really well.Always contact your healthcare provider right away if you notice any b£eeding — even light spotting — during pregnancy.
Your doctor will guide you every step of the way. 💕
