CSC Approves Lateral Entry for Specialized BFP Positions

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has approved the Bureau of Fire Protection's (BFP) request to include specialized technical positions in its lateral entry program. CSC Resolution Number 2400892, dated October 1, 2024, authorizes the BFP to recruit pilots, aviation maintenance technicians/specialists, marine transportation officers, and marine engineers.

This move comes in response to the BFP Modernization Act (RA 11589), which has broadened the agency's responsibilities. These newly authorized positions are crucial for staffing the BFP's Special Rescue Force (SRF).

The SRF comprises four operational units: Search and Rescue, Marine Fire, Aviation Fire, and HAZMAT/CBRNE. It also includes two functional units: K9 Search and Rescue and SRF Paramedic Units. The addition of these highly technical personnel will bolster the SRF's capabilities and enable the BFP to effectively carry out its expanded mandate.

Please note: This information regarding potential BFP lateral entry positions is for informational purposes only. No announcement has been made by the BFP.
