Professional Reflection:
At around 3:00 AM, a mother delivered at our facility presenting with thick meconium-stained amniotic fluid. Despite the potential risk for fetal distress, the newborn exhibited a strong cry immediately after birth. Upon assessment, a double nuchal cord was noted but was loose enough to be reduced without complication. The baby was dried and stimulated, with good tone and spontaneous breathing observed.
This case highlighted the importance of preparedness and calm teamwork during late-night deliveries, especially when complications such as meconium-stained fluid and cord coiling are present. Early recognition and prompt intervention ensured a positive outcome for both mother and newborn. It reinforced the value of vigilance, skilled monitoring, and coordinated care even during off-peak hours.
