🎓 UNSAFE ACT vs UNSAFE CONDITION 🎓
📊 Safety Fact:
Studies show that over 80–90% of workplace accidents are linked to unsafe acts, while unsafe conditions play a major supporting role.
This means accidents are preventable if we understand the basics.
🔴 UNSAFE ACT (Human Behavior)
An unsafe act is when a person chooses or unknowingly performs an action that increases the risk of an accident.
📌 Common, easy-to-understand examples:
• Not wearing a helmet because “it’s just for 5 minutes”
• Using a ladder incorrectly instead of proper access
• Talking on the phone while walking or driving
• Bypassing machine guards to finish work faster
• Carrying heavy loads with poor posture
📘 Fact:
Unsafe acts are often caused by lack of awareness, overconfidence, pressure to meet deadlines, or poor safety culture.
🚫UNSAFE CONDITION (Workplace Environment)
An unsafe condition is a physical or environmental hazard present in the workplace.
📌 Common, relatable examples:
• Wet floors without warning signs
• Broken or uneven walkways
• Poor lighting in corridors or staircases
• Exposed electrical cables
• Machines without proper guarding
📘 Fact:
Many unsafe conditions exist because of poor maintenance, weak inspections, or failure to report hazards.
⚠️ THE ACCIDENT TRIANGLE (IMPORTANT FACT)
📊 For every 1 major accident, there are:
• 29 minor injuries
• 300 near misses
If we act early on unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, we stop accidents before serious harm occurs.
💡 KEY SAFETY MESSAGE
Unsafe acts = Behavior problem
Unsafe conditions = Workplace problem
Accidents happen when both come together
Safety is not common sense it is learned behavior.
