SITIO LAKARON, Buenavista, Sergio Osmeña, ZN --- Since its construction in 2018, the improvised tramline or ‘sky cable’ in this remote upland community has continued to serve as an important lifeline for local farmers and residents.
Built to address the difficulty of transporting agricultural products across steep mountains and rough trails, the cable transport system has helped residents move bananas, corn, vegetables, and other farm produce more efficiently from one side of the mountain to another. For only ₱15 per sack, farmers are able to save both time and physical effort in delivering their products.
Suspended high above deep ravines and thick greenery, the tramline is made of steel cables, steel sheet platforms, and metal framing. While it may appear to be an adventure ride for visitors, it remains an everyday necessity for the people living in Sitio Lakaron, especially during rainy days when mountain roads become muddy and nearly impassable.
Aside from transporting goods, the tramline has also become a symbol of resilience and resourcefulness among residents who continue to adapt to the challenges of living in geographically isolated areas.
Today, residents are hopeful that the tramline will receive further improvement and recognition from authorities, believing it has the potential to become a tourist attraction because of its unique riding experience, breathtaking mountain scenery, and cool climate. -30-
