For things to change, you must change. For things to get better, you must get better. - Jim Rohn

And changes must start in the way we think.

Finally—after months of sitting on my desk—I finished this book by Sir Boogie Boydon. As an auditory and kinesthetic learner, it took me a while because I had to read each chapter aloud to fully grasp it. Here’s my short take on the book.

This is one of those rare books every Filipino should read—not because it’s trendy, but because it speaks to that small tug in the heart we feel when we wish our country were better and ask, “What can I actually do?” Sir Boogie doesn’t preach; he invites. The pages are filled with clear, practical steps that begin with personal responsibility and ripple outward to family, community, and nation. No theatrics, no scolding—just grounded wisdom that makes you look in the mirror and then step outside with purpose.

A heads-up: the book works best when you bring an open mind and a real willingness to change. If you’re ready to trade complaints for contribution, cynicism for courage, and “leave it to fate” for “let’s start now,” this is a must-read. Ang Bagong Pinoy isn’t just a book—it’s a gentle push to become the Filipino our future needs. Read it, sit with it, and see if that quiet tug doesn’t turn into action.

Life is a canvas, and its colors shine as brightly as we allow them to. We choose the shades that paint our journey—hope, courage, resilience—even if others see a different picture. The masterpiece is ours to create. So pick up the brush, and paint boldly.

We’re born complete and capable, yet we’ve mastered the art of making excuses. This book reminds us that the only thing standing between us and our potential is the stories we tell ourselves. Time to stop explaining why we can’t, and start showing why we will. 💪

Ever had those moments when you really don’t want to go somewhere—a place, an event, a meeting—but you force yourself to go anyway? Or maybe someone else drags you along?

Then out of nowhere, you meet someone, have a conversation, and boom—doors start opening. You make a connection that leads to something you’ve been searching for all along.

This happens to me all the time. Every time I go somewhere I initially resist, I end up coming home with something meaningful—an idea, a new friend, a golden opportunity.

That’s why when I feel that internal resistance, I try to defy it. I show up. Because…

Visibility creates possibility.
Profitability follows proximity.

Opportunities are out there—but they don’t knock on closed doors. So get out there, even when it’s inconvenient. Especially when it’s inconvenient.

Stop Waiting for the Perfect Moment—Create It.

Most people wait to get out of debt or be “less broke” before they start managing their finances. Others wait for life to get better before they start doing better. But here’s the twist: waiting only delays progress. We don’t manage money after we’re okay—we get okay because we manage money.

It’s ironic, right? Like putting the cart in front of the horse and wondering why it’s not moving.

Exploring T. Harv Eker’s 6 Jar Method of money management, the more financially tight things are, the more important this method becomes. Some will say, “What do I manage if I have nothing?” Valid point. But even if it’s just coins or a small income—especially then—we need to learn how to grow it by managing it well.

You might not get it right at first. You might end up dipping into one jar to cover another—and that’s okay. It’s not about being perfect from day one. It’s about building the habit… the discipline. And that, my friend, is what truly makes all the difference.

It’s never too late to learn how to read.
For four decades of my life, I had only finished two books. I struggled with comprehension and would feel sleepy after just a few pages.

It was only a few years ago that I discovered I’m an auditory and visual learner. That changed everything. I started diving deep into audiobooks, podcasts, and YouTube videos – turning our car, and buses I traveled on into an Automobile University. I finally began to enjoy learning again. But then I learned that reading activates and develops a specific part of the brain—so I made the decision to learn how to read all over again.

I also discovered a trick: I could better understand and stay awake when I read aloud. So now, every morning, I read one chapter out loud from the book of my choice.

“If we are not growing, we are not living.”
I choose to grow every single day. I don’t believe in retirement. As long as I can, I will keep learning, keep living, and help others do the same—to live a purpose-driven life. Because a life with purpose is a life worth living.

This is the life I choose.

The Marshmallow Test is a famous psychological experiment conducted by Walter Mischel in the 1960s at Stanford University. It tested delayed gratification in children.

In the experiment, a child was given a choice:
• Eat one marshmallow now, or
• Wait 15 minutes and get two marshmallows instead.

Researchers observed how long the children could resist the temptation. Follow-up studies found that children who were able to wait tended to have better life outcomes later on—such as higher academic achievement and better emotional regulation.

The test became a symbol of self-control and the benefits of delaying gratification.

The people who succeed in, and in life in general) are those who can withstand the “marshmallow test.”

My question is, are we willing to do the necessary sacrifices today, in order to enjoy time and financial freedom in the future?

My answer is a resounding YES. How about you?
