Here is our patient, Catie, she is a 10-year-old domestic short hair. According to her fur parents, Catie had been spayed years ago. However, they are still observing heat signs (just not getting pregnant), and she has been showing vaginal bleeding on and off for the past 2 years.
At the time she was brought in, she was extremely dehydrated, had profuse vaginal bleeding, and respiratory disease. We decided to make her condition better first, before deciding on surgery. After days of confinement, she was doing a lot better and so we decided to refer her for ultrasonography, and do the surgery a week after.
Once we have confirmed that it was in fact a stump pyometra, she was prepped for surgery. Upon opening her up, we found the part of the uterus that was causing the vaginal bleeding and infection. And we also found the ovarian remnant that was causing her to still have heat signs. Both were removed in surgery, as well as the hydrocoele that developed on the o***y.
As of now, Catie's sutures have been removed and she is recovering well at home.
