STOP, LOOK, AND READ!
Here are some facts about cholera:
*Cholera is a bacterial disease spread through contaminated water and food.
*Cholera can cause severe diarrhea, dehydration, and even death if the disease goes untreated.
*People living in places with unsafe drinking water, poor sanitation, and inadequate hygiene are at highest risk of cholera.
*Cholera is a major public health concern in developing countries with poor sanitation and water treatment systems.
*The primary cause of cholera is infection with the bacteria Vibrio cholerae.

Transmission and Spread:
1. Fecal-oral route:
Cholera is primarily transmitted through the fecal-oral route, meaning people get infected by ingesting food or water contaminated with the cholera bacteria Vibrio cholerae.

2. Water and food contamination:
This happens when the bacteria from an infected person's stool contaminates water sources, shellfish, or other foods, which are then consumed by others.

Treatment/Management:
Cholera treatment focuses on replacing lost fluids and electrolytes through rehydration therapy, which can include oral rehydration salts (ORS) or intravenous fluids. Antibiotics and zinc supplements may also be used in some cases.

Prevention and Control:
To prevent and control cholera:
1. Focus on safe water and sanitation;
2. Proper food handling, and hand hygiene;
3. Drink and use safe water sources;
4. Cook food thoroughly;
5. Wash hands often with soap and clean water;
6. Consider vaccination if available;
7. Promoting public education on hygiene and sanitation.

Hello Rio Astudillo

Thanks to Ms. Socorro Balderamos of NKTI, we have a profound guide of diet for patients with high uric acid and recurring gout flares.

As per Ms. Balderamos' guide, patient should avoid Group 1 entirely. Items listed under Groups 2 and 3 may be consumed 1-2 times per week. However, results and reaction may vary per patient, so it's best to consult with your doctor.

This year has been a tough one but this December, I am reminded to take one day at a time and to keep moving forward. I look back with gratitude to the opportunity that was given to me to build something of great significance in our community and to move forward with love and fortitude.

This year, we are able to achieve the goals that were set in the year 2021. With that, I am grateful.
