Bladder training is not what you think! Modern evidence-based practice does not recommend clamping the catheter prior to removal. Clamping not only fails to reduce urinary retention or recatheterization, but also increases the risk of UTI and delays the first void. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a neurogenic bladder, OB, orthopedic, or colorectal case — all RCTs and meta-analyses show no benefit. 🤷🏻♂️
