Culmination of CGHTC Class 01-2025 “Sinag-Una” Clinical Learning Experience

On 31 October 2025 the Manila Naval Hospital proudly marks the successful completion of the Coast Guard Healthcare Technician Course Class 01-2025 “Sinag-Una” Clinical Learning Experience. Over the past weeks, the trainees showcased dedication, competence, and compassion as they honed their clinical skills and rendered quality patient care.

The program was graced by LTC MERVYN JOHN VIADOY Chief Medical Service and COL ARLENE M MANDAL NC(MNSA) together with the Coast Guard Director of Nursing Service Training Institute. On 30 October 2025, The Manila Naval Hospital successfully conducted “The Medics Challenge 2025” a half-day friendly tournament designed to strengthen teamwork, leadership, and presence of mind among our future Marines and Coast Guard healthcare providers.

This activity tested participants from the Basic Medical Aidman Course (BMAC) and Coast Guard Healthcare Technician Specialty Training Course (CGHSTC) through simulated clinical and tactical emergency response scenarios, challenging their speed, accuracy, discipline, and cooperation under pressure.

Through events like this, MNH continues to hone the competence and readiness of our medical frontliners always prepared to serve in both hospital and field operations.

On 13 October 2025, the United States Marine Corps (USMC) led by the Commanding Officer of MRF-SEA Col, Robb Mcdonald USN and their Medical team conducted a courtesy call to the Commanding Officer, Manila Naval Hospital, COL PHAVEENA R AGUINALDO MC(GSC) followed by a hospital tour as part of their coordination efforts in connection with the Marine Air Support Activity (MASA) exercise of the Philippine Marine Corps and US Marine Corps slated from 14–25 October 2025.

The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and enhance interoperability between USMC medical planners and MNH healthcare personnel, ensuring readiness and mutual support in providing quality medical care to participating troops.
This engagement underscores MNH’s commitment to fostering international partnership and medical cooperation in support of joint military operations.

| Strengthening Inter-Service Medical Training Collaboration

On 16 September 2025, a successful coordinating conference led by COL PHAVEENA R AGUINALDO MC(GSC) together with COL ARLENE MANDAL NC(MNSA), MAJ EDA RYNE C DE OCAMPO NC and 1LT MARIELLE JEN B JUSTINIANE MAC and PCG Training Directorate headed by CDR GENEBIE G MONTEJO PCG with LTJG JONATHAN A DURAN PCG and LTJG LEAH P ESCATRON PCG was conducted at the Conference Room of the Manila Naval Hospital (MNH). The meeting brought together key representatives from both the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard. This collaboration was in line with the upcoming Clinical Learning Exposure (CLE) for the Coast Guard Healthcare Technician Specialization Course. This conference laid the groundwork for an important cross-service educational engagement that will allow Coast Guard healthcare trainees to immerse themselves in hands-on clinical experiences within the Philippine Navy’s medical facilities.

successfully conducted a 3-day Orientation on Epidemic-Prone Disease Case Surveillance, Specimen Collection, Transport and Handling, and Donning and Doffing of PPE last 26–28 August 2025 at the Gazebo Area, MNH.

The activity brought together our healthcare personnel to strengthen their skills in monitoring epidemic-prone diseases, ensuring proper specimen management, and practicing safe and correct use of protective equipment. These sessions are vital in preparing our staff to respond effectively to public health threats while maintaining the highest standards of patient and personnel safety.

Likewise, this training capacitates participants in reporting notifiable diseases. By investing in continuous training and readiness, the Manila Naval Hospital reaffirms its commitment to providing quality healthcare services and supporting the health security of our community.

proudly took part in the 4th Philippine Society for Quality in Healthcare (PSQUA) Mid-Year Quality Summit, held on 22 August 2025 at the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center with the theme “Excellence in Health Care Research: Ensuring Quality, Safety, and Patient-Centered Care.”

successfully conducted its 1st HIV Counseling to Testing Training from 04–08 August 2025, attended by nurses and healthcare workers from various departments. The five-day training, led by DOH-certified facilitators and experts from the National AIDS/STI Prevention and Control Program, focused on equipping participants with essential skills in HIV pre- and post-test counseling, rapid testing procedures, confidentiality, and client-centered care.

The interactive sessions aimed to strengthen the capacity of MNH personnel to deliver stigma-free and confidential HIV services within the hospital and its satellite clinics. This milestone training has a significant impact on the Philippine Navy and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). By integrating HIV testing into routine healthcare, the initiative supports military readiness, promotes the health and wellness of personnel, and strengthens the AFP’s role in the national HIV response. The newly trained counselors are expected to lead HIV awareness and testing efforts, helping reduce stigma, ensure early detection, and provide linkage to care ultimately making the Philippine Navy a proactive force in addressing HIV within military and civilian populations.

07 July 2025 – CIV HR Del Rosario, RN discussed Medical Abbreviation and Terminology; CIV HR San Jose, RN and CIV HR Gatchalian, RN lectured on Essential Emergency Drugs and Supplies.

08 July 2025 – CIV HR Daguro, RPh tackled Basic Pharmacology and Drug Administration.

09 July 2025 – CIV HR Llanes, RM and CIV HR Sarte, NA facilitated a session on Bed Making.

10 July 2025 – CIV HR Bueno, RN presented Male and Female Catheterization, while CIV HR Versales, RN lectured on E***a.
