Did you know baking soda can help ease GERD and acid reflux? Just mix 1/2 teaspoon into a glass of water (at least 4oz). It works fast to neutralize acid! Just remember not to overdo it—it's meant for occasional relief, not for every day.

Spicy foods can trigger or worsen GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) in some people.

Here’s why:
When you eat spicy foods (like those with chili, pepper, or vinegar), they can:

Irritate the esophagus — especially if acid reflux already occurs.

Relax the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) — the muscle that keeps stomach acid from going up.

Increase acid production — making heartburn or that “burning chest” feeling worse.

Acid reflux happens when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus (the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach).
This causes a burning sensation in the chest called heartburn — especially after eating or when lying down.
⚠️ Common Symptoms:
Burning feeling in the chest (heartburn)
Sour or bitter taste in the mouth
Feeling like food is coming back up
Bloating or burping
Hoarseness or sore throat (especially in the morning)
🍴 Common Triggers:
Fatty or spicy foods
Caffeine, alcohol, or carbonated drinks
Eating large meals or lying down right after eating
Smoking
Being overweight
Stress
💡 Helpful Tips:
Eat smaller, more frequent meals.
Avoid lying down at least 2–3 hours after eating.
Elevate your head when sleeping.
Limit coffee, alcohol, and acidic foods (like citrus, tomato, vinegar).
Drink warm water or ginger tea to soothe the stomach.
Maintain a healthy weight.
If symptoms persist, it’s best to consult a doctor — sometimes they’ll prescribe antacids or acid reducers (like omeprazole).
