Today, December 30, we commemorate and honor the 124th death anniversary of our national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal, whose life and legacy have inspired countless others to dedicate their lives in service of the nation.
Rizal Day was first celebrated on December 30, 1898, after General Emilio Aguinaldo issued a decree declaring December 30 as the anniversary of Jose Rizal’s death and as a day of mourning for the hero and other patriots who fought the Spanish rule.
As we commemorate the death of one of our greatest heroes, let us also be grateful for his courage and bravery which inspired us Filipinos to fight for our freedom and pride.
This year’s observance centers on the theme: “Jose Rizal: Inspirasyon sa Pagbangon at Paghilom ng Bayan.”
