Secondary or recurrent caries can form under old restoration caused by bacteria and food particles that get trapped between the tooth and the restoration.

SYMPSTOMS: Sensitivity and pain triggered by cold, hot or sweet substances. Visible cracks or chips. Sometimes there are no apparent symptoms.

TREATMENT: Replacement of old restoration if decay is caught early or root canal treatment.

PREVENTION: Good oral hygiene and regular dental check-up.

What causes ABFRACTION?

Abfraction is caused by long-term stress on the teeth. This can happen in a variety of ways, such as:

bruxing, also known as teeth grinding
misalignment of the teeth, also called malocclusion
mineral loss due to acidic or abrasive factors
Sometimes there are multiple contributing factors. Your dentist may not be able to tell you exactly why it happened. Also, abfraction can occur along with other dental problems like abrasion and erosion.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD WE REPLACE DENTURES?

🦷 Although dentures have a long shelf life, they should be replaced every 7-10 years. The reasons are, over time, dentures fit change. Your facial appearance also changes as you age. Discoloration and damage like broken or cracked dentures also are some of the reasons for replacement.
