• +555% increase in new HIV cases (global: -40%)
• +667% increase in AIDS-related deaths (global: ↓50%)
• 252,800 Filipinos living with HIV today — maaaring umabot sa 457,600 by 2030
• 90% of new cases: MSM (men who have s*x with men)
• 30% of new cases (Jul–Sep 2025): below 18 years old
• Most cases come from Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and Central Luzon

✔️ Sapat na pondo, strong policy implementation, at evidence-based healthcare programs
✔️ Pag-alis ng stigma para mas maraming tao ang magpatingin nang walang takot

🧠 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖? There’s a growing link between 𝐇𝐈𝐕 and 𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐗 (Monkeypox) — and it’s now being seen here in the Davao Region.

📍 During the Habi at Kape Media Forum (June 4, 2025), SPMC Medical Center Chief Dr. Ricardo Audan confirmed that 7 Mpox cases in the region are also HIV-positive — with the majority being male.
He noted that the mode of transmission may be tied to certain high-risk activities, explaining the overlap in infections.

📊 Davao City (Jan 1 – June 2, 2025):
✅ 7 confirmed Mpox cases
✅ 49 close contacts identified
✔️ 35 finished 21-day monitoring with no symptoms
⏳ 14 still under observation

➡️ People living with HIV, especially with a weakened immune system, can face more serious complications from Mpox.
➡️ BUT those with well-managed HIV (with undetectable viral loads) respond to Mpox just like anyone else.

When should I get an HIV test?
Since HIV is primarily a s*xually transmitted disease (STD), testing is very important for those who are s*xually active – particularly those who have multiple partners. HIV tests are recommended for:

Babies born to HIV-positive mothers
People seeking treatment for any other STD
People who already have tuberculosis or hepatitis
People who have unprotected s*x with multiple partners
Those who are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant
Those who use shared needles to inject drugs
It is important to note that not everyone who is infected with HIV will develop early symptoms. However, two to four weeks after HIV exposure, you may experience the following symptoms:

Chills
Fever
Muscle aches
Night sweats
Prolonged diarrhea
Rash on the torso
Sore throat
Spotting on the skin or in the mouth
Swollen glands or lymph nodes
Unexplained fatigue
Unexplained weight loss
These symptoms are not specific to HIV and the presentation (or not) is not enough to predict your HIV status – only an HIV test can confirm a positive case. It is important to consult a health care professional if you think you may have been exposed to HIV.
