When Passion Meets Purpose: Gawad Alab ng Kalusugan Ignites UGNAYAN 2025

This week, DepEd Region 02 witnessed something truly unforgettable—UGNAYAN 2025, a gathering of all DepEd School Health and Nutrition personnel. It was more than an event—it was a celebration of hearts united in service, a living testament to the dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts of those who make every learner’s well-being their priority.

The week began with the Program Implementation Review, a meaningful space where division representatives shared their journey of managing resources, maximizing Program Support Funds (PSF), and delivering impactful programs for learners. Stories of success, lessons from challenges, and commitment to transparency filled the room, reminding everyone that School Health is fueled by integrity and heart.

The Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd Best Practices and Innovation Expo cm SBFP suppliers' Expo, transformed the venue into an airport-themed adventure. Each participant received a “passport” and a “boarding pass”, traveling from one booth to another. Each “destination” showcased innovative ideas, creative solutions, and best practices from across the region. The interactive setup made learning fun, inspiring, and unforgettable—showing that when hearts work together, innovation and compassion truly take flight. ✈✚

Laughter, connection, and teamwork filled the air during team-building activities. Colleagues discovered new ways to support and celebrate one another, reinforcing the truth that the heartbeat of School Health is not found in reports or programs—it is found in the people who serve quietly, passionately, and wholeheartedly every single day.

The week reached its pinnacle with the Gawad Alab ng Kalusugan 2025, a night of pride, joy, and gratitude. This special evening honored individuals and teams whose hearts burn with service. Gawad Alab ng Kalusugan 2025: Greatness Born from Humble Hearts

It was a night of pride, passion, and heartfelt celebration. The first-ever Gawad Alab ng Kalusugan 2025, a DepEd Region 02, Education Support Services Division-School Health and Nutrition Unit (SHNU) initiative, brought together the region’s dedicated School Health heroes—nurses, doctors, dentists, focal persons, and staff—whose quiet yet tireless efforts shape the health and well-being of learners every single day. For one unforgettable evening, their stories, commitment, and unwavering care took center stage, reminding everyone that true greatness often lives in humble hearts.

As the lights dimmed and the program began, one could feel the anticipation and pride in the air. This was more than an awards night; it was a celebration of service that often goes unseen, of passion that cannot be measured on paper, and of hearts that choose to give, day after day, for the sake of every learner.

Throughout the evening, laughter and applause mingled with tears of pride. Awardees were called forward, not for accolades alone, but for their unwavering commitment and genuine care. Each story told, each recognition given, reflected the quiet courage of those who stand at the frontline of health, ensuring every learner in Region 02 has the chance to grow, thrive, and dream.

The event was guided and inspired by the steadfast leadership of RD Benjamin D. Paragas and ARD Florante Vergara, whose vision and encouragement empowered the SHNU to pursue a celebration as meaningful as it was ambitious.

The evening’s success was also made possible through the planning of the ESSD- SHNU and the careful evaluation of nominees by the Regional Evaluators. The graceful hosting and spectacular ex*****on was led by SHNU Cauayan City, with SDS Cherry S. Ramos, providing direction and support. Their tireless work, creativity, and collaboration transformed a long-held vision into a truly magical and inspiring celebration, leaving every heart in the room uplifted and proud.

The Gawad Alab ng Kalusugan reminded everyone that true greatness is humble, measured not by titles or reports, but by the love, care, and passion invested in every learner’s life. For one unforgettable evening, the spotlight shone on those whose hearts burn with service, illuminating the very soul of School Health in Region 02.

As the night came to a close, a quiet sense of pride filled the room. This first Gawad Alab ng Kalusugan had done more than recognize achievements—it had honored dedication, celebrated humanity, and ignited hearts. It reminded everyone present that the true flame of School Health is carried in the humble yet courageous hearts of the SHNU personnel who serve tirelessly, day in and day out, for the learners they hold dear.

And as the first chapter of UGNAYAN 2025 ends, the fire of the Gawad Alab continues to burn—inspiring more hearts, more service, and more learners whose futures shine brighter because of these heroes.

Vergara, whose leadership continues to inspire the Region in advancing initiatives that uphold learners’ holistic health and well-being.

Dr. Kris Zanna Acluba-Arao of PAO-NEL discussed the importance of color vision screening and how it helps identify and address visual challenges that may affect learners’ academic performance.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Education Support Services Division- School Health and Nutrition Unit (ESSD-SHNU), in collaboration with Philippine Academy of Ophthalmologist- North Eastern Luzon (PAO-NEL). Through this partnership, Project OCULUS strengthens efforts to promote learners’ eye health through comprehensive color vision screening.

DepEd Region 02 extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Schools Division Office of Tuguegarao City, particularly its School Health and Nutrition Unit, and to Libag Integrated School for graciously hosting the Regional Kick-Off Activity.

Likewise, sincere thanks are given to all school health personnel and representatives from the division offices across DepEd Region 02 who actively participated in the activity — reaffirming their collective commitment to ensuring that every learner’s vision and well-being remain a top priority.

After the program, pilot Grade 7 learners of Libag Integrated School and Namabbalan Integrated School were successfully screened for color vision, marking the first step of Project OCULUS in reaching schools and learners across the region.
