You just know.
In 2015, I traveled to Pune, India to visit the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Memorial Institute. As a curious, newly minted YogaWorks graduate, I was eager to learn more about Iyengar Yoga and the use of props, wanting to understand how I could better serve the community I was about to build and teach in Cagayan.
By grace, I was allowed inside the Institute and given a brief yet unforgettable moment to observe a class in its iconic hall. I brought home a few props, hoping to recreate them when I returned, not realizing how much that visit would shape my path as a teacher.
Over the years, my teaching has evolved, yet it has always remained rooted in the values I found in Iyengar Yoga: clarity, structure, awareness, and compassion. I’ve learned that true teaching lies in observation, adaptation, and the quiet discipline of practice.
In 2019, I attended what would become Maty Ezraty’s last workshop in Tokyo. Just days after that workshop, she passed away. I was left with deep gratitude for having practiced with her, and yet, a sense of loss, uncertain who would guide me next or where my practice would lead.
Fast forward to 2020, during my 300-hour teacher training, we were asked to attend ‘s online classes, which were held in collaboration with the Iyengar Yoga Community of Japan. From the moment she spoke, I knew she was my Teacher. Her clarity, precision, and compassion resonated deeply. I never expected our paths to cross, and even more so, that she would take me under her wings, an honor and privilege I hold close.💞
I lost Maty in Tokyo, but found Marla here, a gentle reminder that the path unfolds as it should. Finally meeting her in person in Tokyo feels serendipitous, as if life has quietly brought a long journey full circle, back to where it all began in Pune.🌸
Under her guidance, I am reminded that growth begins with consistent practice. My commitment to Iyengar Yoga continues to deepen as I strive to integrate its precision, mindfulness, and heart into everything I share.
Ah, life. You just know, when the path you’ve been walking all along finally brings you home.🧘🏻♀️
