Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya — October 9–10, 2025 — In a decisive step toward strengthening public health research in Region 02, the Cagayan Valley Health Research and Development Consortium (CVHRDC), in partnership with Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), launched a two-day training on “Crafting Research Data Gathering Tool for Epidemiological Research” during the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW 2025).
The initiative brought together faculty members, health professionals, and researchers committed to producing evidence that drives smarter, more responsive health interventions.
Designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice, the training equipped participants with essential skills to design valid, reliable, and ethically sound data collection instruments tailored to real-world epidemiological challenges. With the increasing demand for localized health data, especially in post-pandemic recovery and climate-sensitive contexts, the ability to craft precise research tools has become a critical competency for those working in the frontlines of science and policy.
Through a dynamic mix of lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on workshops, participants explored the fundamentals of epidemiological research, study design selection, variable identification, and tool validation. The highlight: participants drafted and refined their own instruments, guided by experts from the Cagayan Valley Health Research and Development Council (CVHRDC) and regional academic institutions. These tools are expected to inform future studies on disease surveillance, behavioral risk factors, and health system performance—laying the groundwork for data-driven solutions that matter.
CVHRDC officials emphasized that this training is more than a technical exercise—it’s a strategic investment in the region’s capacity to lead with science. By empowering local researchers, the consortium aims to foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making that can transform public health outcomes across Cagayan Valley.
