The Department of Health, in partnership with local government units, is implementing the Measles–Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA), or “𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐠𝐝𝐚𝐬” campaign, in response to the recent increase in measles cases at the provincial, regional, and national levels. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious complications, particularly among young children. The Office of the Provincial Health Officer (OPHO) is aware of the circulating Facebook post regarding an alleged adverse event following immunization (AEFI) death reportedly linked to the MR-SIA in a neighboring province. We acknowledge the public’s concerns and extend our sincere sympathy to the family involved. All reported adverse events following immunization are carefully investigated and validated by the Department of Health and appropriate health authorities to determine their true cause.

We strongly reassure the public that 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐬–𝐫𝐮𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞, protecting millions of children from measles, rubella, and their serious complications. These vaccines undergo strict safety screening and are continuously monitored through established surveillance systems.

The OPHO further assures parents and caregivers that health workers implementing the MR-SIA are properly trained, fully capable, and well prepared to monitor, recognize, and promptly manage any adverse events following immunization. Vaccination teams strictly adhere to standard safety protocols and are equipped to provide appropriate medical care when necessary.

The public is reminded that in any eventuality following vaccination—particularly if symptoms are unusual, persistent, or concerning—immediate consultation with the nearest health facility or a qualified health professional is strongly advised to ensure timely assessment and management.

The OPHO urges the public to verify information through official and reliable sources and to refrain from sharing unverified or misleading content that may cause unnecessary fear and confusion. MRSIA and e-Konsulta conducted at Sitio Datal Ngisi, Kablon 💉🩺

The Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRSIA) and e-Konsulta were successfully conducted at Sitio Datal Ngisi, a remote sitio of Barangay Kablon, bringing essential health services closer to the community. The activity was conducted together with Dr. TJ Lawas and Nutritionist Beneath Rojo, with IEC sessions to promote health awareness and educate residents on disease prevention and proper health practices.

The activity also included the conduct of OPT (Operation Timbang Plus) and MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference) measurements to assess the nutritional status of children by BHW and BNS.

The activity was led by the BHS Kablon Team, headed by Ellen Dela Cruz, RM, HRH - Ivory Empig, RN, and Joylyn M. Galucan, RM.

These DOH programs aim to protect children against measles and rubella, improve access to primary health services through e-Konsulta, monitor child nutrition, prevent disease outbreaks, and ensure that even remote communities receive timely and quality health care.

We sincerely thank PB Osting Tilo for the transportation support and the Committee on Health, kevin S. Manulang, for accompanying and assisting during the conduct of health services.
