Every 3 December, we join the global community in celebrating the ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ (๐๐๐ฃ๐). This day highlights the importance of promoting the rights, inclusion, and well-being of persons with disabilities in all areas of life (social, political, economic, and cultural). Together with the UN and WHO, we reaffirm our commitment to building a society where everyone can participate fully, equally, and without barriers.
Across all regions, persons with disabilities and their families continue to encounter significant barriers to social development. They are more likely to experience poverty and face ongoing discrimination in employment, often receiving lower wages and being concentrated in informal work. Social protection systems also remain inconsistent and insufficient, especially when extra disability-related expenses are considered, leaving many without adequate support. In addition, many individuals still face care and support systems that compromise their dignity, autonomy, and agency.
