The FUMC-VMC Consortium once again proves its excellence — both on the national and international stage!

Last 27th of September, our very own Dr. Christian Sergio G. Guerra with the guidance of our hepatobillary consultant, Dr. Rene Luis Filarca proudly represented our institution during the Surgical Grand Rounds at the Philippine Heart Center, organized by the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS) and the Philippine Society of General Surgeons (PSGS).
He presented an outstanding case entitled:
“Descending Colon Gallstone Ileus Treated with Focused Incision Cololithotomy in a Geriatric Filipino Patient.”

This remarkable case was further showcased at the 10th Biennial Congress of the Asian-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (A-PHPBA) held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand last October 28–31.
It was accompanied by both case and research presentations by our recent graduates — Dr. Cavaneyro, Dr. Malibiran, and Dr. Flores — highlighting the academic strength and research excellence of our program.

This achievement reaffirms that our training program stands at par with global standards, producing competent and world-class surgeons ready to represent our country with pride.

So, what are you waiting for?
Join us. Grow with us. Represent the nation with us.

✨ We’re proud to share an incredible milestone for our department! ✨

One of our research works titled “Utility of a Novel Ultrasound Scoring System for Preoperative Prediction of Difficult Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy” was recently presented on the international stage at the 5th World Congress of the International Laparoscopic Liver Society held in Seoul, South Korea 🇰🇷.

This study was led by our very own former chief resident Dr. Mirinisa Cavaneyro, along with our recent graduates Dr. Kristine Flores and Dr. Carllinni Malibiran, under the mentorship and guidance of our dedicated training officer Dr. John Mendoza.

Their participation not only showcased the excellence of Filipino surgical training but also served as a reminder that our residency program meets international standards—in both clinical skill and research innovation. 🌍🔬

This inspiring experience was proudly echoed back to our current residents, lighting a fire of determination and proving that with hard work, mentorship, and passion—we can compete and contribute on the world stage. 💪👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Team building is a vital component of a successful surgical residency program. In the high-stakes environment of surgical care, patient outcomes heavily depend on seamless coordination, communication, and trust among team members. Residency training is not only about acquiring technical skills but also about developing the interpersonal dynamics that foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and mutual respect among consultants, residents and staffs. 😎🍻🍷

"Surgery without research is tradition. Research without surgery is theory. Together, they create innovation."

We are proud to showcase the fruits of our hard work—researches conducted both face-to-face and shared across our social media platforms! These efforts reflect the strength and quality of our training program, standing proudly at par with both local and international standards. None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our institution—Fatima University Medical Center - Valenzuela Medical Center—whose exceptional leadership and administration continue to inspire excellence in all we do! ☝️

We are deeply honored to be visited by Senator Win Gatchalian. We at Valenzuela Medical Center look forward to the wider capacity and expanded services that our hospital is striving to offer. We recognize that there is still much that needs improvement, and we remain fully committed to making the necessary changes to better serve our patients and our community. In the Surgery Department, alongside all other offices and departments, we are working hand in hand, and with continued support and dedication, we are confident in building a stronger, more responsive healthcare facility.
