OSH Practitioners participate in the 8th MOSH Summit in Zamboanga City
Zamboanga City- More than 400 OSH Advocates and practitioners gathered in Zamboanga City on October 10-11, 2023 to participate in the 8th Mindanao Occupational Safety and Health Summit.
The 2-day event was hosted by ZamPen OSHNET in partnership with OSHC-REU 9 and DOLE 9, which aims to address workplace hazards from all over the country.
The first day of activity was graced by DOLE Undersecretary Atty Benjo Santos-Benavidez, DOLE 9 Regional Director Albert E Gutib, OSHNet President Engr. Eduardo Rivero Jr., OIC Deputy OSHC Director German Eser Jr., 1st District Representative Khymer Adan T Olaso, Majority Floor Leader and 2nd District Representative Jose Manuel "Mannix" Dalipe represented by Jojo Dalipe and City Mayor John M Dalipe represented by Councilor Jerome Santos.
Usec. Benavidez emphasized that “Health and Safety is everyone's priority, it is necessary for the workforce. We need to inculcate in the minds of the workers and employers that safety is indispensable, which will lead to productivity, he said.
Following Zamboanga’s tradition, Engr Rivero banged the gong which signaled the opening of the summit.
The activity served as an avenue to foster a collaborative environment for the exchange of best OSH practices, research, innovative solutions, and strategic approaches to effectively tackle the emerging workplace hazards encountered by Filipino workers in the country.
With the goal of promoting a safer and healthier work environment, this Summit served as a platform for industry leaders, professionals, and advocates to convene and share their invaluable insights and experiences. By leveraging the collective expertise of attendees, the event aimed to enhance the overall understanding of OSH practices and facilitate the dissemination of knowledge to safeguard the well-being of the Filipino workforce.
The summit further underscored the collective commitment of industry stakeholders, OSH professionals, and researchers to proactively address the evolving challenges faced by Filipino workers.
The Resource Speakers Highlight the Significance of Occupational Safety and Health in Achieving Safe and Healthy Workplaces, - anchored on the theme "Maaksyong OSH tungo sa Ligtas at Malusog na Paggawa" ("Proactive OSH towards Safe and Healthy Work"). With the ever-evolving landscape of modern work environments, it has become increasingly imperative to prioritize occupational safety and health (OSH) measures. This highlights the proactive approach required to ensure the safety and health of workers. By fostering a culture of vigilance and awareness, organizations can effectively address potential risks and create an environment conducive to the well-being of their workforce.
To cap the first day of the event, participants and guests will be treated to a Noche de Colores- a night filled with cultural presentations, games and raffles to engage the participants and to give them a feel of the vibrant Zamboanga Hermosa Festival which the city happens to be celebrating this October. //End
