My teacher’s vacation ended in the most meaningful way — with a 3-day Cataract Surgical Mission that holds a special place in my heart.

First, it marked my return to the Mindanao Humanitarian Volunteers for Peace after a six-year hiatus — a group I’ve always been proud to serve with. Second, I had the privilege of working side by side with my dear friend and fellow ophthalmologist, Doc Tess Villaluz Heyrosa. Third, this mission was made possible through the generous support of another good friend, Mayor Lulu Calonge of Mabuhay LGU.

And most special of all, I was able to give back to the people of Olutanga Island — the very place where I grew up.

Truly, this wasn’t just a mission. It was a homecoming of service, friendship, and gratitude...
