Last November 20, 2025, Dr. Zhahida Amil, incoming 4th year resident and chief resident, formally presented her research entitled: “Prevalence of New Onset Psychiatric Symptoms Among COVID-19 Confirmed Positive Patients Referred to the Department of Psychiatry of Zamboanga City Medical Center.” This was paneled by the department chairperson, Dr. Nadia Paber, assistant training officer and research supervisor, Dr. Sheila May Aduviso, and technical and ethical review board committee member, Dr. Mary Germeyn Punzalan.

Dr. Amil’s study highlights key psychiatric symptoms among COVID-19–positive patients and emphasizes the need for early recognition and management. Her work strengthens the department’s ongoing efforts to advance mental health research.

Last November 21, 2025, the department proudly sends off Dr. Van Samuel Calisang (psychiatrist), Mr. Rolf Marcus Villano (psychologist) and Mr. Roger Limbaga (psychiatric nurse) as part of the ZCMC Health Emergency Response Team. The team will be deployed to Cebu to provide Psychological First Aid to communities affected by Typhoon Tino.

Last November 14, 2025, the department held the Pre-Residents’ Case Presentations at the Tzu Chi Conference Room.

The presenters were:
1. Dr. Mara Eliza Calualhatian, with her case titled “Mind over Money: The Cost of Ambition”
2. Dr. Divina Grace Vasquez, with her case titled “Still Waters, Raging Currents”

The panel was composed of the department chairperson Dr. Nadia M. Paber, training officer Dr. Sheila May D. Aduviso, ward administrator Dr. Neil Ryan Marcos, and PSU head Ms. Antonietta Escandar.

This activity is an integral part of the pre-residency training screening and admission process providing an opportunity for applicants to demonstrate their clinical reasoning, presentation skills, and readiness for residency training. This process ensures our commitment to excellence in selecting and shaping future psychiatrists.
