MEN AS ALLIES: Building a VAW-Free Workplace 🧡

Today, the male employees of Labuan General Hospital took center stage in the fight against violence against women during a lecture–workshop held as part of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women 2025.

The session highlighted the crucial role of men as partners in prevention, respect, and positive change. Participants tackled real workplace issues, reflected on solutions, and acted out real-life VAW scenarios—discovering practical ways to intervene, support, and take action. It was engaging, eye-opening, and empowering.

This meaningful activity is a step toward building a workplace where men are not only aware but are also active allies, creating safe and supportive spaces for everyone. 🧡

Enhancing IV Therapy Competencies for Nurses 💙

As part of our World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) 2025, LGH held a focused training on IV Therapy: Pharmacology, Drug Safety, and Practical Application for our nursing staff.

We were honored to learn from our guest speakers from Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC):

Ms. Sharon D. Bucoy, RPh, RN, MSCAR for Pharmacology and Mr.
Richie A. Vesagas, RPh, CPH, MMHcA for Drug Interactions and Contraindications Associated with IV Medications.

To reinforce learning, our nurses also completed a return demonstration, allowing them to practice safe IV preparation, administration techniques, and proper medication handling.

Thank you to our ZCMC speakers and to all participating nurses for your commitment to continuous learning and safer patient care.

LGH goes BLUE for WAAW 💙

Labuan General Hospital joins the world in raising awareness on World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week — a reminder that antibiotics are powerful medicines, but only if we use them correctly.

🌍 What is WAAW?
A global campaign that helps people understand the dangers of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) — when germs become stronger and antibiotics stop working.

⚠️ Why it’s a big deal:

• Common infections become harder to cure
• Hospital stays get longer
• Treatments become more expensive
• Some infections can become life-threatening

💙 How YOU can help prevent AMR:
• Take antibiotics only if prescribed
• Never share antibiotics
• Don’t save leftovers “for next time”
• Finish the entire course as instructed
• Avoid self-medicating
• Practice proper handwashing to avoid infections in the first place

💬 Simple reminder:
Not all sickness needs an antibiotic — colds, cough, and flu are usually caused by viruses, and antibiotics don’t work on them.

By going blue, we’re spreading a message that can literally save lives: Use antibiotics wisely. Keep them effective. Protect our future. 💙

‼️WHO, DOH TARGET 12M FILIPINOS TO BE SCREENED FOR TB BY 2026; PHILIPPINES AIMS TO DOUBLE BUDGET FOR TB SERVICES‼️

DOH is intensifying TB elimination efforts under President Marcos Jr.'s directive, with the new Philippine Strategic TB Elimination Plan (PhilSTEP2) and the Philippine Acceleration Action Plan for Tuberculosis PAAP-TB 2023–2035.

✅DOH plans to screen 12 million Filipinos nationwide by 2026.

✅DOH proposed 2026 budget for TB program is ₱4.2 Billion to accelerate service delivery.

✅ Prevention is strengthened through the roll-out of shorter Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) regimens and contact investigation resulting in more than 50% increase in TPT enrollment in 2024.

✅TPT expansion to cover contacts of drug-resistant TB cases and is now under advanced programmatic implementation.

✅Literacy on prevention and treatment is also boosted with community campaigns like TPTodo.
