A caesarean can happen for many reasons;

✔️Prolonged labor: This can be from the cervix begins to dilate and stops before the woman is fully dilated, or the baby stops moving down the birth canal⁠, or labor goes on for over 20 hours with little progress
⁠
✔️Cord Compression: The cord is around the baby’s neck or body. This can also happen if the cord is trapped between the baby’s head and the mother’s pelvis.⁠
⁠
✔️Prolapsed cord: The cord comes out of the cervix before the baby.⁠ The blood flow to the cord is decreased and therefore threatens the baby's life.
⁠
✔️Placental Abruption: This is where the placenta detaches from the uterine wall before delivery.⁠

​✔️Placenta Issues: The placenta partially or completely covers the cervix blocking the birthing canal.
⁠
✔️Fetal Distress: Your baby's heart rate may not be tolerating the labor, this is discovered through fetal movement monitoring whilst in labor.
​
✔️ Maternal Distress; Maybe a chronic or acute condition such as high blood pressure, or gestational diabetes.
⁠
✔️ Cephalopelvic disproportion: Also known as CPD, this is where the babies wont fit through the pelvis. It may be that pelvis is too small or the baby's head is to large

​✔️Repeat Caesarean

​✔️It is a choice that she simply wants to make

CAN I JUST TELL MY DOCTOR I WANT A CESARIAN SECTION TO AVOID VAGINAL BIRTH?

Lots of new mums have heard so much about birth.

There are lots of stories that make them to fear the thought of giving birth vaginally.

Then the way out to them is to just have a caesarian section so they avoid all the issues that come with vaginal birth

The fact is just like vaginal birth comes with some risk, caesarian section also comes with its risk as well.

It is a procedure that was made to help mums who have issues or indications for it

Example

🔴Baby is too big

🔴There is fetal distress

🔴Baby can't pass through mums pelvis

🔴Placenta previa

🔴Previous c/s+ short interval

🔴Prolonged labor

🔴Bad obstetric history etc

It's not the best to just ask for a caesarian section without any indication or proper reason

Speak to your midwife or doctor. Make a proper birth plan that suits your condition. It should not be based on your fear or what people have said about birth
