🗞️ Hypocalcemia in cows has important consequences;
1. Metritis may form as a result of potency or stillbirth due to clinical or subclinical hypocalcemia.
2. Milk yield decreases during the lactation period of cows that have undergone stillbirth and metritis.
3. Cows that have had stillbirth and metritis have reduced fertility.
4. The period of postpartum first estrus and ovulation of cows with stillbirth and metritis is delayed.
5. In cows with subclinical hypocalcemia, the risk of left displacement of the abomasum is increased.
📍Hypocalcemia in cows has significant consequences that affect progeny and milk yield. Therefore, precautions should be taken to prevent hypocalcemia.
These measures should be in terms of negative ration cation-anion balance or cows should be fed vitamin D2 or calcium boluses immediately after birth. As an alternative method, 500 g of zeolite should be added to the ration for each cow in the last 21 days of the dry period.
