Little angel , big miracle !!
Approximately two months ago, baby was delivered by emergency c section at 31 weeks gestation due severe PIH, weighing only 700 grams, due to severe Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR). baby was having severe resp distress and labored breathing at time of birth. The baby was immediately transferred to the NICU due to respiratory distress.
Initially, baby was immediately administered surfactant and put on bubble cpap with high flow oxygen and shifted in incubator. With very vigilant monitoring and care, Over the next few days, the baby’s condition gradually improved. Initially on CPAP, the baby was weaned off oxygen and then started ng feeding. During the course of treatment as baby condition improved baby was shifted to oral feed
Despite initial weight loss to 570grams, the baby began gaining weight steadily and, by the time of discharge on the 61st day of life, had reached a weight of 950 grams.
The survival of babies with extremely low birth weight is typically low. However, this outcome was possible due to the combined efforts of a dedicated healthcare team, including skilled nursing care, strict hygiene, infection control and prevention measures.
This case highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and the resilience of preterm infants.
