Celebrating Knowledge & Well-being: Mental Health Quiz Competition!
​The Department of Psychiatry at LUMHS was buzzing with energy today as we hosted a fantastic Mental Health Quiz Competition for our undergraduate and postgraduate students!
​In extension of our World Mental Health Day celebrations, this event was a wonderful way to challenge, educate, and engage our future mental health professionals. We saw brilliant displays of knowledge, sharp critical thinking, and great team spirit!

As part of the global observance of Suicide Awareness Month, the Department of Psychiatry, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) &,Sir Cowasji Jehangir institute of Psychiatry Hyderabad organized a seminar on Suicide Awareness and Prevention on 26th September 2025 at Acedimc ward Sir Cowasji Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences, Hyderabad.

The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Jamil Junejo, Chairman and Head of the Department, who underscored the urgency of suicide as a pressing public health challenge and highlighted the vital role of psychiatrists in prevention, early intervention, and community education.

The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Manzoor and Dr. Ali Buksh, esteemed consultant psychiatrists, who attended as guests of honor.
In addition,faculty members Dr. sumera channa, Dr. aatir and madam Ayesha Nighat shared their valuable perspectives on the clinical, psychosocial, and societal aspects of suicide, emphasizing the cultivation of protective factors, the reduction of stigma, and the importance of community-based initiatives. They also commended the participants for their active involvement and insightful engagement.

So proud to share that today, Dr. Sumera spent her afternoon at Radio Pakistan recording a special program. The topic is incredibly important to all of us "mental health and addiction issues affecting young people". She's committed to shedding light on these challenges and helping our community. September is World Suicide Prevention Month, and the Department of Psychiatry LUMHS marked the occasion with a special program for our undergraduate MBBS students on September 22nd at sir cowsjee institute of Psychiatry.
​The event featured a quiz competition on the important topics of depression and suicide. It was inspiring to see our future doctors engage with these critical subjects and demonstrate their knowledge.
​We're incredibly proud of all the students who participated. Congratulations to the winners, and a big thank you to our faculty, Dr. Jameel Junejo, Dr. Adeel Memon, and Dr. Sumera channa, for their guidance and for raising awareness about suicide prevention among young doctors.
​The day concluded with a celebration of our collective efforts with a cake cutting and a prize distribution ceremony. It was a wonderful day dedicated to learning, awareness, and community.

This Wednesday is World Suicide Prevention Day 💛

A day to come together, raise awareness and show those who are struggling that they are not alone.

We believe in normalising conversations about our mental wellbeing - being open about our vulnerabilities, feelings and emotions. Every time one of us shares honestly, we create space for someone else to do the same. That’s how stigma is broken and lives can be saved.

The smallest acts of kindness…a conversation, a smile, or a check-in with a friend, can change someone’s day, and sometimes, even save a life. 💙

This Wednesday, let’s stand as a community, united in compassion and action.

👉 Your call to action: take a moment to reach out to someone. Be the reason they feel seen, valued and supported. Together, we can create a world where no one feels they have to face their struggles alone.
