Mastering Metabolic Surgery: Isra University Hospital Successfully Concludes Symposium & Live Surgery Event

Isra University Hospital, in collaboration with GLR, proudly announced the successful completion of a One-Day Symposium and Live Bariatric Surgery event on Friday, 5th December 2025. The program was designed to enhance surgical education, foster teamwork, and improve patient care through advanced techniques and expert guidance.
The event was smoothly hosted by Dr. Alishba Kaimkhani, Dr. Zainab, and Ms. Mehwish Baloch. It commenced with a heartfelt recitation by Dr. Zainab, followed by a warm welcome address from Dr. Altaf Hussain Jatoi. The session featured an insightful presentation by International Master Trainer Dr. Syed Imran Abbas from the Iranian Hospital Dubai, who highlighted the significance and benefits of bariatric surgery. The Chief Guest, Dr. Sajjad Kazi, Director of Isra Hospital, lauded the efforts of the organizing team and underscored the growing importance of bariatric procedures.
A live bariatric surgery demonstration was performed, followed by an interactive Q&A session where participants engaged directly with the surgeon. The WHO Team and Global Fund for TB Control Programme conducted an official visit to the Isra University Hospital TB Center, on 28th November, 2025 where they evaluated the ongoing tuberculosis diagnostic and treatment services being provided. The delegation was received by the Head of Pulmonology Department and Focal Person of TB Center, Dr. Saima Siraj, and Colonel Iftikhar who briefed the team on the achievements, workflow and future objectives of the centre.

Dr. Saima Siraj highlighted that Isra University TB Center has been fully functional since 2023, providing free diagnosis, treatment, preventive therapy, GeneXpert testing, contact screening and follow-up care — all accessible to the community without cost. The visiting team appreciated that despite being part of the private sector, Isra University Hospital is offering public-benefit TB services with high commitment, systematic management and well-maintained protocols.

Isra University Hyderabad organized a Free Gastroenterology Camp aimed at providing essential healthcare services to the local community. This one-day event is a testament to the university's dedication to promoting community well-being.

A successful meeting took place recently between the HANDS Independent Living Centre (HILC) team and the Isra University Hospital team.
The HILC team was warmly welcomed by the Management of Isra University Hospital along with representatives from the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) department IUH, highlighting a shared professional interest in rehabilitation and accessibility.
During the meeting, HILC Focal Person, outlined HILC's vital work and the core philosophy of Independent Living. He stressed the need to empower persons with disabilities and ensure their full inclusion across all sectors of society.
HILC is playing a crucial role in community awareness and supporting the full participation of disabled individuals.

Free Medical Camp by Isra University Hospital at Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam Provides Free Medical Care Large Number of Patients

Isra University Hospital, in collaboration with Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tando Jam, organized a large-scale free medical camp at the SAU residential colony, providing essential healthcare services to hundreds of men, women, and children from Tando Jam and surrounding areas.
The camp was organized under the directives of Director Isra University Hospital (IUH), Dr. Sajjad Kazi, whose guidance made this large-scale activity possible
The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Ghulam Mohiuddin Qureshi, Registrar SAU, who performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony in the presence of Colonel (R) Iftikhar Ahmed, Administrator Isra University; Director Agriculture Research Institute, Imdad Ali Sohu; senior SAU officials; and representatives from various departments.
Following the inauguration, the registrar and distinguished guests visited the camp where specialist medical teams offered consultations, diagnostic services, and treatment. Nearly 600 patients received free medical care and medicines across multiple specialties including general medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, gynecology, pulmonology, dentistry, surgery, and physiotherapy.
The Registrar SAU Tando Jam commended the dedicated efforts of Isra University’s expert doctors, describing their service as “a remarkable example of community welfare and professional excellence.” He further added that SAU continues to support community well-being through academic, research, and humanitarian initiatives.

4th Diabetes Symposium at Isra University

Isra University Hyderabad in collaboration with Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine (PSIM) and Health Zone on the occasion of world diabetes day organized 4th Diabetes Symposium. It was organized by Dr. Sunil Maheshwari, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine. This is worth to share 1st Diabetes Symposium was organized in 2021 in the history of Hyderabad from the platform of Isra University. The theme of this symposium is “Diabetes is a challenge and insulin is the answer”
The main purpose of this symposium was to bring together clinicians and researchers in an innovative program that includes plenary session and panel discussions as well as oral communication with experts to encourage the integration and participation of young doctors. This symposium addressed the issues related to diabetes including global burden, burden in Pakistan, Challenges in staring insulin therapy, guidelines for dyslipidemia and also focuses on complications of diabetes mellitus.
This program started with the recitation of versus from holy Quran. After National Anthem, a warm welcome to audience followed by review of health zone activities was presented by Dr. Beenish Memon, Consultant Physician, Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad. The panel of expert were invited to be seated on distinguished chairs including: Prof. Bikha Ram Devrajani (Vice President, central committee Pakistan society of internal medicine), Prof. Feroz Memon (Vice Chancellor, University of Modern Sciences, Tando Muhammad Khan), Prof. Raheel Sikander (Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Aga khan Hospital, Hyderabad), Prof. Pooran Kumar (Head of Department of Nephrology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamhoro), Dr. Mumtaz Lakho (Associate Professor, Incharge MU-IV, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamhoro) and Dr. Sarwat Anjum (Consultant Endocrinologist and Assistant Professor, Ibn-e-Sina University, Mirpurkhas).
The academic session started with the talk on Switching smart, The role of high quality insulin in treatment of diabetes by Dr. Sunil Maheshwari. He elaborated the pathophysiology of diabetes and insulin therapy including indications, dose and shared the data on benefits of early use of insulin in preventing the complications of diabetes mellitus. The next speaker was well known leading cardiologist Dr. Muhammad Kashif Shaikh (Head of Department of Interventional Cardiology, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro and Director MKS). Dr. Shaikh shares the guidelines on the management of dyslipidemia and elaborate the role of every drug including new drugs in management of lipid levels. Dr. Hafsa Urooj, consultant physician and Assistant professor, Department of Medicine, Isra University Hyderabad discussed the case scenarios related to autonomic neuropathy- a silent complication of diabetes mellitus. The audience participated in discussion with Dr. Urooj.
Prof. Bikha Ram Devrajani shared the new approaches to treatment of diabetes and described the concept of exogeneous and endogeneous insulin. Prof. Feroz Memon elaborate the dyslipidemia complexities and management with dual statin therapies. Prof. Raheel Sikander emphasized the burden of gestational diabetes and improve the awareness regarding contraception, the only way to prevent gestational diabetes and hyperglycemia in pregnant women. Dr. Pooran Kumar said, if heart involvement is red sign of diabetes than kidney involvement is black sign of diabetes. Good glycemic is the only way to prevent kidney damage. Dr. Mumtaz Lakho discussed the issues about compliance of patients on insulin therapy. Dr. Sarwat Anjum asks all the clinicians to focus on prevention of diabetes by educating the community on life style modification as it is one of the preventable disease. She also mentioned the importance of diabetes education in achieving the glycemic targets by the patients.
Prof. Muhammad Akbar Memon, Department of Medicine, Isra University concluded the session with his insightful remarks and congratulate the organizers. Prof. Salman Kazi, professor of forensic medicine, Isra university thanks the audience on the behalf on administration of isra university Hyderbad.
The shields and souvenirs were distributed among the Panelists and speakers by the dignitaries. The program was well moderated by house officer Dr. Hifza Fatima. SAMI Pharma remained the backbone by sponsoring the whole session.

The session was organized under the supervision of Dr. Saima Jatoi, Head of Pulmonology & Critical Care, whose continuous efforts and leadership ensure the smooth ex*****on of academic activities within the department.

The event was moderated by Dr. Komal Anwar and Dr. Maham Khan, who conducted the session with professionalism and ensured a smooth academic flow throughout the program.

آج میری او پی ڈی میں 60 سال کی بزرگ خاتون آئیں جن کا میں نے کچھ عرصہ پہلے آپریشن کیا تھا۔
آپریشن سے پہلے وہ ویل چیئر پر تھیں، نہ کھڑی ہو سکتی تھیں اور نہ چل سکتی تھیں۔

لیکن آج…
ماشاءاللہ وہ اپنے پاؤں پر خود کھڑی بھی ہوئیں اور بغیر سہارے کے چل کر دکھایا۔
ان کی خوشی اور چہرے کی مسکراہٹ دیکھ کر دل مطمئن ہو گیا۔

بزرگ اماں نے بڑی محبت سے کہا:

A Continuous Medical Education (CME) program on “Nutrition Assessment, Screening and Role of Nutrition in Critically ill Patients” was organized by Ms. Sumaiqa Khalil, Nutrionist, Isra University Hospital Hyderabad in collaboration with Health Zone under the leadership of Dr. Sajjad Kazi, Director, Isra University Hospital.

The event featured insightful talks on Assessment and Screening of Nutritional Status by Dr. Sunil Maheshwari, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Dr. Hafsa Urooj, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Isra University highlighted the role of nutrition in critically ill patients.
