You must have often heard that milk and fish together must be avoided because this can cause white patches on the skin, commonly known as ‘Phulbehri’ or Vitiligo. Well, this is factually inaccurate – i.e. a myth. Firstly, Vitiligo is a disease caused by lack of the skin pigment, melanin and has no link with fish or milk. All over the world, you will find cuisines using milk or yoghurt as a key ingredient to cook fish.

One needs to avoid both foods in combination only if one has a weak immune system, is lactose intolerant or has a fish/ seafood allergy. For such individuals, having both foods together can cause stomach pain, rashes, or nausea.

Remember, fish is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, and vitamin D, whereas milk is a rich source of calcium and proteins. Having both together will cause no harm if you do not have an allergy to either of these items.
