Shifa Center of Professional Excellence in collaboration with the Department of General Surgery, Shifa International Hospitals Ltd., successfully conducted a 4-day comprehensive Stoma Management Course at Shifa International Hospitals Ltd.
The course was led by Dr. Qamar Hafeez Kiani, Consultant General Surgeon (SIHL), with contributions from Dr. Sara Khan, the course combined focused lectures with hands-on practical sessions covering stoma anatomy, site marking, stoma bag application, complication management, and nutritional care of stoma patients.
The program brought together Postgraduate Trainees and Residents, Nurses, and Paramedics, fostering a multidisciplinary learning environment focused on improving patient-centered stoma care.
Throughout the course, participants developed a comprehensive understanding of stoma anatomy and perioperative management principles, learned to recognize and manage common complications associated with stoma formation, and explored practical, evidence-based strategies for effective home care management.
The activity concluded with a structured post-activity assessment that included both a theoretical evaluation and a hands-on viva to assess knowledge retention and practical competence. The interactive sessions and practical demonstrations significantly enhanced participants’ clinical competence and confidence in managing patients with stoma care needs.
