The National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, in collaboration with C19RM, the Global Fund project, successfully organized a 3-day training workshop on "Laboratory Data Integration with PPHL Peshawar" and the IDSR system using DHIS-2, in Islamabad. This initiative is part of NIH’s continued efforts to reinforce Pakistan’s national disease surveillance and laboratory reporting frameworks.
The workshop brought together participants from identified laboratories across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), including medical doctors, microbiologists, molecular biologists, and laboratory technologists. The goal was to equip them with the skills needed for effective data integration, standardized reporting, and alignment with national and provincial surveillance systems. Throughout the training, SME laboratory experts from NIH and IDSR delivered comprehensive sessions on the IDSR laboratory network and its role in surveillance, good laboratory management practices, specimen collection, handling and transportation, biosafety and biosecurity, and laboratory quality management systems.
A highlight of the workshop was the hands-on demonstration of DHIS-2 (web and Android application) by the NIH and PPHL technical team. Participants practiced real-time data entry, validation, and reporting—turning theoretical learning into practical skills essential for field implementation.
This capacity-building effort marks a significant milestone in bridging clinical and public health laboratories, enabling a more connected network that strengthens early detection, enhances data-driven decision-making, and supports timely responses to emerging public health threats and outbreaks.
