Universal Health Coverage is not about doing everything, it’s about doing the right things first.

In her latest article published in The News on Sunday, Dr. Ayesha Khan, CEO of the Akhter Hameed Khan Foundation, shares why Pakistan needs a smarter, more targeted approach to UHC, one that starts with urban poor communities, strengthens primary healthcare, and focuses on essential services that save lives and prevent poverty.

At AHKF, this mirrors our on-ground experience working in informal settlements, where early screening, maternal care, nutrition, and prevention can make the difference between resilience and crisis.

We encourage you to read the article and join the conversation on how Pakistan can move from health promises to health outcomes.

Mental health support was once unimaginable in Dhok Hassu until AHKF’s Rawan Desk made healing possible within the community.

This reel shares a real psychosocial support story of a woman navigating emotional distress, isolation, and abuse, supported by our counselors at the Roshan Aaj Academic System (RAAS). With care from NUST-trained mental health professionals, she began rebuilding safety, confidence, and connection.

To protect dignity and confidentiality, the name Rania and all visuals have been changed. Her healing journey, however, is real and one of many unfolding through the Rawan Desk.

AHKF remains committed to accessible, compassionate, community-based mental health care in Dhok Hassu.

The financial resilience of women in urban Pakistan is undeniable, demonstrated perfectly by the community trust and strict savings of the Kameti (committee) system.

However, this resilience is trapped. The billions circulating informally are invisible to banks, preventing women from accessing the credit they need to scale their businesses and achieve economic power.

At AHKF, we see this discipline as a national asset. Through our Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) program, we provide the digital tools and formal access needed to transform Kameti discipline into a verified credit history and an economic boost for Pakistan.

👉🏻If you could take one thing from the Kameti (mutual trust, discipline) and add it to formal banking, what would it be? Share your thoughts below!
