Dr. Jean-Christophe, WHO Pharmacovigilance Consultant, accompanied by the DRAP Pharmacovigilance and Quality Assurance teams, visited the Pharmacy Services & Drug Control PS&DC), Health Department, ICT, earlier today.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the existing processes for Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) collection and reporting at the Provincial Pharmacovigilance Centre.

Sardar Shabbir Ahmed, SQCB/Focal Person for Pharmacovigilance, briefed the delegation on the Centre’s operational framework and ongoing activities.

A detailed gap analysis was conducted to align the Centre with WHO standards and to further develop it into a model Provincial PV Centre.

While proposing certain areas for improvement, the visiting team commended the ICT PV Centre for being the highest contributor of ADR reports among all seven Provincial Pharmacovigilance Centres.

SDI/Secretary. Quality Control Board, Islamabad had an interaction with the Community Pharmacists engaged with PMAC Project. A pilot project, initiates by IPAS with the support of PS&DC, Islamabad with the objective of involving pharmacists in patient counselling activities and making them a visible part in healthcare system.

A fleet of 3 dedicated vehicles was received by the PS&DC section today.
The surveilance capacity of the PS&DC shall be strengthened after this accomplishment.
Under a PSDP Project, the PS@DC is being strengthened in terms of HR, screening equipments and vehicles.

Applications submitted on previous portal shall be processed on the same portal and need not to be re-submitted.

Pharmacy Services & Drug Control, Health Deptt- ICT

On directions of the SDI/Secretary, Quality Control Board, Islamabad, a team of PS&DC-ICT conducted market surveillance and screened number of drug samples for detection of any spurious product while using Raman Analyzer at the spot.

Meanwhile two Pharmacies in Gulberg Green area have been sealed for involvement in selling controlled drugs without prescription and absence of pharmacist.

Always purchase any drug from an authorised distributor and with valid warranty.

Warranty is your only protection as now any spurious drug shall be identified by PS&DC at the spot and strict action shall be initiated including registration of FIR and sealing of the premises.

Ist meeting of the ICT Pharmacovigilance Committee was held in Health Department, G 9 Markaz, Islamabad.
The meeting was chaired by Sardar Shabbir Ahmed, SQCB/FP, PV, Islamabad and attended by members including Dr Naseem Akhtar, ID Consultant, Prof Dr.Suleman , Pharmacologist, Dr Nadia Shams, Medical Specialist, Mr Abdul Mateen Dy Director, DRAP, Mr Waqas, Clinical Pharmacist and Ms Amber Basharat, DI/PV Officer.

The Committee took stock of the current ADR reporting situation in Islamabad and took various decisions including requiring all hospitals to appoint dedicated PV Officers, constitution of PV Committees and starting awareness campaigns.

The decisions of the committee shall be implemented to ensure patient safety in Islamabad.

The Quality Control Board, Islamabad held its 59th meeting under the chairmanship of Mr. Laeeq Ahmad, Addl: Secretary, Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Saleem Cheema(Dy Secy Health),Syeda Rashida Batool (District Health Officer, Islamabad), Mst. Tehreem Sara, Addl Director, DRAP, Mr. Uzair Khan Asst Commissioner, ICT and concerned Drug Inspectors.

Sardar Shabbir Ahmed, Secretary Quality Control Board presented 15 different cases of violation of the Drugs Act & DRAP Act, 2012 for discussion and decision by the Board.

The Board after personal hearing of the concerned accused, approved suspension of drugs sale license in one case, while directing the drug inspectors to seal the premises during suspension period.

Warning is issued in 07 cases over minor violations of the Drugs Act, 1976 and DRAP Act, 2012.

On recovery of un-registered drugs, the Board approved prosecutions in 07 cases and directed the Drug Control Section to submit cases in the Drug Court at the earliest.

The Board also accepted the Appellate testing request of one manufacturer while turned down the other over weaker scientific justification.

The Board also appreciated the working of the PS & DC Section of Health Department, Islamabad with the directions to target hotspots and enhance field surveillance.

A step forward towards strengthening of the Quality Control measures by the Pharmacy Services & Drug Control, Health Deptt, Islamabad.

Raman Handheld Analyzer has been purchased and received under a PSDP funding which has the capacity to identify counterfeit/spurious products within few seconds.

PS&DC is taking all out measures for strengthening the regulatory measures for ensuring sale of quality assured and safe therapeutic goods to masses.

In purview of special campaign launched on directions of the Federal Minister for NHSR&C, a team of the PS&DC, Health Deptt, Islamabad comprising Drug Inspector Amber Basharat (Rural) conducted surprise surveillance of various sale outlets operating in PWD Main Road, Islamabad alongwith DRAP FID's.
Six suspected HoTC items were seized for investigation.

Later on, surprise raids were conducted in main Tarlai Bazar and Sharifabad where two premises were sealed on operating without Drugs Sale License while sale was stopped for one sale point on finding violation of the Drugs Act, 1976/DRAP Act, 2012 and relevant rules.

As the special campaign shall continue till June 18, 2025.

The SQCB Islamabad, Sardar Shabbir Ahmed has directed the teams of PS&DC to take strict action against the violators.

Today Drug Inspector (Rural) Amber Basharat conducted surprise spot checks in Shakrial area of Islamabad.
One medical store was sealed due to sale/ stocking of
Un registered and un-enlisted stocks of therapeutic goods whereas one premises was sealed due to operating without drugs sale license.
Samples of 5 different suspected drugs were also sent for analysis.
