Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS):
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is pressure on a nerve in your wrist. It happens when there is increased pressure within the wrist on a nerve called the median nerve. This nerve provides sensation to the thumb, index, and middle fingers, and to half of the ring finger. The small finger (the “pinky”) is typically not affected. You can often treat it yourself, but it can take months to get better.
Causes:
It causes tingling, numbness and pain in your hand and fingers and wrist swells inside.
Treatment:
Treat carpal tunnel syndrome as early as possible after symptoms start.
For example:
Take more frequent breaks to rest the hands.Avoid activities that make symptoms worse.Apply cold packs to reduce swelling.
Other treatment options include wrist splinting, medications and surgery.
