Those decisions that you make in your youth, they Impact your middle age, after forties, after fifties, after sixties and, ofcourse, in the old age. A person then goes towards disability, dependency, and God forbid, Paralysis, dependency on children, dialysis, diabetes, arthritis, a person go towards these. Remember, as people say I got arthritis in old age, I got stroke in old age. That stroke, that paralysis, that disability that you got at old age. Even though these days happening in youth as well. But the heart attack that one got at 60 or at 70, actually begins at the age of 26 24 and 30 years. Our choices, our decisions determine our forthcoming life in future.

Can you get your glasses back after LASIK? According to eye specialist Dr. Hamza, if someone got LASIK done and got rid of the glasses, the sight should be stabilized by the age of 30. Don't get LASER done before 21 and this is the biggest predicting factor. Secondly, if a person's number is very high then Cornea, the front layer of eye has some specific thickness. If you do laser at lesser thickness, then there're chances that the eye number can come back. Like I said that "Minus Six" is a cut-off and eye numbers below minus six are almost completely eliminated. But if someone has Minus Ten or Minus Eleven and you did laser on him then their number will certainly be reduced to Minus three or Four but spectacles won't be removed.

What if a person is 30 to 35, or 40, 45 or even 50. Can they also get LASIK done? According to top eye specialist Dr. Hamza, LASIK laser shouldn't be done before 21 but by when one should not do it?
Anyone who wants to get eye laser done, it's ideal age is 21 to 35. Even at 36, some people still do it. Now what to do between 36 years to 45 ? We've an option called ICL. Intra ocular contact lense, if I make patient understand it in common words, then just as you put contact lense from outside, we put this contact lense internally inside eye permanently. The eye ball that is often brown in Pakistan, that lens is fit on that eyeball. So, it's kind of contact lense that goes inside the eye and your vision gets better. But again, having said that, just as every thing has a risk and benefit. In that case, it's been seen that some people get early cataract.

According to eye specialist Dr. Hamza, before the age of 21, eye laser should not be done. This is very important. In our society, some people do it anyway because of the pressure from the patients as they have to come and go abroad and are not in Pakistan. However, at the age of twenty one, your eye number becomes constant completely. Then you have to make sure that the number remains constant for further six months. If the patient has old refractions/ glasses, it can be compared. Before twenty one, don't go for laser.

In Pakistan, currently, average age of a man is 62 years and of a woman is 66 years. When you reach that age, may God give you long life but let's say if you reach upto 70 years, it means God has fixed your age up to 70. However, when you reach that age, that step, that stage, would you be struggling? Would you be disabled? Would you be taking insulin syringes in your body? Would you be on dialysis? God forbid, would you be relieving yourself on bed? No. You can't blame God for all this. This is in your authority.

If hundred people got their LASIK done, how many will have a chance of getting short-term or long-term complications? According to eye specialist Dr. Hamza, out of hundred, five to ten percent will have them. That is not much. Many people are very happy without glasses. But, indeed, five to ten percent might have small complications. As I said, short term complications are easy to deal with. For long term, we need to work hard a bit. But nobody, God forbid, ever get blind or get his eyesight lost unless he/she gets infection. If infection does occur then that is kind of serious complication. So after surgery, laser, occurance of infection due to germ, bacteria or fungus or any other thing or when care is not taken properly. Because, see, it's not always doctor's fault. At times, patient's fault is also there to not to take care as we ask him to do.

Doctors are taking off glasses of all but their own glasses are not being taken off. What's the mystery? Dr. Ikram asks eye specialist Dr. Hamza.
People ask me too but as I don't wear glasses so I'm saved but certainly patients come to me and tell the same that they went to different doctors and they themselves were wearing glasses. Eligibility criteria is important like I told you. It's possible that an eye doctor with glasses who's offering you LASIK might not fulfill eligibility criteria or might have a higher number. When I was in England, many of my colleagues got their laser done who were all eye doctors and they are doing really well. I know them quite well as they're good friends of mine. They got their LASIK Laser and procedures done. In Pakistan, there's an issue of not trusting other as well. So, obviously, an eye surgeon too will get his laser surgery done from some other person. Here come, at times, professional issues and trust issues. He can go abroad to get it done but then he thinks what if he came under 5% people who develop complications then his career will be finished. So they rather prefer to keep waring glasses.

Whenever we hear the word of , eating, food, nutrition comes in our mind. So what is diet? Diet is anything that we eat, that we drink, that we listen to whether good or bad, that we watch, whether food or bad, that we think about, whatever we feel, what we eat, drink, what are our thoughts, the air we breathe in, all these make up our diet. Whatever thing you intake is your diet.

Has it ever happened that, God forbid, someone got LASIK done and got their eyes damaged permanently? According to eye specialist Dr. Hamza, everything has advantages and disadvantages. Right. So no surgery, no laser exists in the world that doesn't have risk and benefit. Benefit is, ofcourse, your glasses are taken off. However, risk and complications are always attached with all procedures. And many patients come to me. I'm saying 'many' but it doesn't mean you shouldn't get laser done. You can get laser done but complications do exist which could be long term or short term. Short term such as dryness of eyes, or some flap issue, those issues we can always fix. As for long term complications, the main thing that happens is eye number gets back. For that, as I talked about eligibility criteria, that we must consider and how laser was done. Was it done in a hurry.
