Dr Athar Muniruddin Siddiqui is a UK trained spinal surgeon. His NHS base is Guys & St Thomas’s NHS Trust for Paedriatic complex deformity correction and Stepping Hill Hospital NHS Trust for adult degenerative. Both NHS trusts he works as a Consultant Spinal Surgeon.
He did his fellowship training in spinal surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital London and Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital NHS Trusts London. He is been working in NHS England for last 15 years.
Dr Siddiqui also practices internationally in Karachi at AO Institute of Traumatology, Arthroplasty, Sports and Spinal Injury Centre for both adults and paediatrics. He is lead clinician for AO Hospital Karachi Spine directorate.
He qualified in 2002 from Karachi, Pakistan. Following that he moved to London and started his professional career by doing a diploma in Business Studies with interest in hospital management from London, simultaneously preparing for UK licencing exam for international medical graduates. He subsequently done his foundation years FY1 & FY2 in Northampton/ Leicester and Oxford. Completed his basic surgical training in Dublin – National Spinal Injury Unit Mater Hospital. He finished his higher speciality training in Trauma & Orthopaedics from South West Thames London deanery hospitals. During his training he accumulated 7 post graduate qualifications following his MBBS. That includes a business diploma, membership and Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons England, Masters in Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery, Fellowship of European Board Trauma & Orthopaedics, Diploma SICOT & European Diploma in Spinal Surgery.
Speciality:
He has special interest in minimally invasive spinal surgeries like micro discectomies, decompression. Minimal invasive techniques in the spine (MIS TLIF, XLIF, percutaneous fixation), ALIF, cervical disc replacement.
Injection therapy for back and leg pain including all variations within them like foraminal, caudal, epidural, facet joint, nerve root and sacroiliac joint injections.
Also has complete understanding of recent advances in non-operative back pain management.
Other practices include management of adult and paediatric spinal deformities, scoliosis, kyphosis, tumours, spinal trauma, osteoporotic fractures, vertebroplasty, infections, lumbar and cervical disc degeneration, sciatica.

It rotates through various aspects of spinal surgery curriculum covering the whole breadth. Provides independent operating experience under close supervision. During this fellowship he did 6 months Paediatrics Spine including Idiopathic and Complex Syndromic Deformity Correction procedures, 6 months adult spine including Degenerative Scoliosis deformity correction and 6 months of Neurosurgical aspect of spine working directly under neuro surgeon’s supervision.

Teaching:
He is a tutor for FRCS T&O course in Medway Gillingham and Oswestry.
He is a pioneer in arranging a Royal College of Surgeons CPD accredited FRCS T&O International course in Dubai which is the first of its kind.
He is also a part of Kings College London MRCS OSCE course and teaches final year medical students from Kings College London both in anatomy lecture theatres and in out-patient clinic settings.
He has been actively leading education and research at AO clinic Karachi for spine internationally and a fellowship programs for Post FCPS T&O fellows there.
He has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, been invited to international conferences to deliver lectures, presented locally & globally and organized various courses.
Personal Interests:
Dr Siddiqui likes to stay active in his leisure time, he is proud father of two handsome sons and spends most of his free time at home. He plays cricket for Epsom club in Surrey and enjoys hill walking, cycling, running, badminton and going to gym.
