As we are approaching towards Ramadan it is important to take some important measures during the Lock down!
Physical Activity
During the COVID-19 pandemic, people are restricted in their movements but if restrictions allow, always practice physical distancing, proper hand hygiene even during any exercise activity. In lieu of outdoor activities, indoor physical activities and exercise are encouraged.

Healthy diet and Nutrition
- Proper nutrition and hydration are vital during the month of Ramadan. Hence people should eat a variety of fresh and unprocessed foods everyday and drink plenty of fluids in order to keep themselves well hydrated.
- It is important to include all the wholesome foods so that one can get all the nutrients.
- Try to take lots of fruits and vegetables along with fistful of nuts which will not only improve the palatability of the food but will also assist in healthy and nutritious snacking.
-Time duration in between meals and healthy eating patterns can help boost your immune system .
- Try to avoid junk and fried foods this Ramadan so that one can concentrate on praying and asking forgiveness from our Lord Almighty.
- Fruits should always be eaten before meals so start your iftar with a bowl of fruits and avoid drinking sodas and nimko which can lead to kidney failure.
- Try not to have too cold water or other fluids and try to have green tea which has got antioxidants and anti- inflammatory properties.
- Avoid late sleeping as it weakens our immune system.

Promoting mental and psychological health is of utmost importance during these trying times so reassure the faith that one can still reflect, improve, pray , share and care while keeping the healthy distance.

There are several nutrients that have shown promising effects for common colds, influenza and other respiratory infections.
With all the restaurants closed and outside eating banned, it is important to avail this opportunity and eat healthy and nutritious food at home as this is important for strong immunity build up in order to prevent yourself from the hazardous and long term effects of infections especially COVID - 19 in the present day scenario.
Following are the nutrients that optimize the immune system, which are required by our body:
-Vitamins- A,C, D, E, B Vitamins and Folate
- Animal and plant based Proteins
- Long chain and omega - 3 fatty acids
- Iron
- Zinc
- Selenium
- Magnesium
- Copper.
Example of the above given nutrients are citrus fruits like berries and lemon, vegetables like broccoli, spinach, mashrooms, ginger, bell peppers, beans, nuts like almonds, hazelnuts, termeric , honey, black caraway seeds(Kalongi),
and tea.
