Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland in the brain. It helps regulate other hormones and maintains the body's circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is an internal 24-hour "clock" that plays a critical role in when we fall asleep and when we wake up. When it is dark, your body produces more melatonin. When it is light, the production of melatonin drops. Being exposed to bright lights in the evening, or too little light during the day, can disrupt the body's normal melatonin cycles. For example, shift work, and poor vision can disrupt melatonin cycles.
Melatonin also helps control the timing and release of female reproductive hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone, Lh, Prolactin) & possibly improve the quality of eggs. It helps determine when a woman starts to menstruate, the frequency and duration of menstrual cycles, and when a woman stops menstruating (menopause). Preliminary research suggests low levels of melatonin help identify women at risk of a pregnancy complication called pre-eclampsia.
Which are the food sources of Melatonin
There are several foods, however, that can naturally increase melatonin production,
Tart (sour) cherry juice concentrate, Tart (sour) cherries, Walnuts, Mustard seed, Corn, Rice, Ginger root, Peanuts, Barley grains, Rolled oats, Asparagus, Tomatoes, Fresh mint, Black tea, Under ripe banana (pulp), Broccoli, Angelica, Pomegranate, Strawberries, St. John’s wort, Ripe banana (pulp), Brussels sprouts, Green tea, Black olives, Green olives, Cucumber, Sunflower seeds, Concord grapes (skin), Red grapes (pulp), Red grapes (whole), Concord grapes (pulp), Concord grapes (whole), Red grapes (skin).
Myo-Inositol is a factor belonging to B-group vitamins. It is available in the human body, present in phospholipids and can stimulate the endogenous production of lecithin.
Furthermore, its biological role includes a specific activity to control the metabolism of fats and sugars and of cellular functions of the nervous system. Finally, it is essential for the growth of hair and baldness prevention. Scientific evidence demonstrates that Myo-Inositol can change some hormonal parameters, such as the reduction of plasma level of LH, testosterone and prolactin and the LH/FSH ratio. Myo-Inositol also recovers a regular menstrual cycle with ovulation. Thanks to its modulating action on ovarian function, Myo-Inositol is included into the protocols of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. In case of insulin resistance or type II diabetes, Myo-Inositol demonstrates the ability of improving the overall metabolic picture.
As far as Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is concerned, Myo-Inositol aids to normalize the pathophysiological mechanisms based on the related metabolic and reproductive impairments.
Which are the food sources of Myo-Inositol
The richest vegetable of Myo-Inositol is contained in citrus fruits, integral cereals, dried fruits (peanuts), seeds (wheat germ), legumes (beans), yeast. Fruit and fresh vegetable contain more Myo-Inositol then frozen food, either canned or preserved with salt.
Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring fat-soluble nutrient that is essential for energy production. CoQ10 has potent antioxidant properties and cell membrane stabilizing effects that make it beneficial for egg. CoQ10 works within the mitochondria (the cellular power stations) in the cells and is essential for energy production. Until recently, CoQ10 was not thought to be a nutrient that required supplementation, as all normal tissue manufactures its own CoQ10; however, this production decreases naturally with age and is also lowered by certain drugs, including statins. When CoQ10 levels in the cells are low, energy production may be reduced and oxidative stress increased as a result.
CoQ10 under investigation for potential use with women of advanced reproductive age undergoing ART to improve egg/embryo quality. The oocyte has among the highest concentrations of mitochondria of all body cells and uses immense amounts of energy in the process of maturation and ovulation. Researchers hypothesize that supporting the oocyte with CoQ10 may improve egg quality.
Which are the food sources of Q10
CoQ10 is naturally found in high levels in organ meats such as liver, kidney, and heart, as well as in beef, sardines, and mackerel. Vegetarians or vegans who are used to eating these foods should find a suitable alternative. Luckily, vegetable sources of CoQ10 include spinach, broccoli, and cauliflower. Legumes such as peanuts and soybeans are the best non-animal sources of the substance.
L –Methylfolate is highly bioavailable source of folic acid. Folic acid plays an essential role in the metabolism of amino acids, in the synthesis of protein and nucleic acids (above all in the production of DNA and RNA) and in the repair of chromosomes. Therefore, it is very important for the normal multiplication of cells and for the growth of tissues.
Which are the food sources of L-Methylfolate
L-Methylfolate (Folic Acid is contained in green vegetables with a large leaf, in the liver, egg and legumes, whereas the content is fruits is poor (save in oranges), meats and milk. Food cooking destroys almost completely the amount of folates (90%) in a few minutes.
